Bing is comprised of ~300 petabytes of data

Microsoft has just taken to the stage at NA TechEd and is wasting no time by letting out some impressive statistics including that Bing is currently composed of nearly 300 petabytes of data and the service is writing nearly 1 terabyte of data each day. This massive amount of data goes to show that creating a search engine, is not an easy task. Gathering this amount of information is surely critical to delivering accurate and the best possible search results on the first query. Microsoft also said that Bing is now running on Server 2012 RC, which was announced previously, but wanted to hit home that Microsoft battle tests all of its products before pushing them out in to the field.

Microsoft talks about "Cloud OS" era at TechEd

Microsoft shows how Windows 8 is the most flexible platform to date

Windows 8 is a radical change in terms of its user interface compared to earlier versions of Windows for Microsoft. But what if you wanted to develop an application or game that would run on both Windows 8 and Windows 7? Informationweek.com reports that during a keynote speech at its TechEd conference in Orlando today, Microsoft showed how a Windows 8 PC could run a virtual version of Windows 7 at the same time. The keynote included a demo, run by Microsoft's Linda Averett, that showed how the Windows 8 hypervisor software could not only run a version of Windows 7 on the same PC, but could even display both Windows 8 and Windows 7 running at the same time by splitting the monitor. Averett showed a Windows 8 Metro version of the game Cut The Rope that was on one side of the screen while also showing a Windows 7 version of the same game on the other side.

Microsoft shows off Office 2013 on Windows RT at TechEd

Earlier today, Microsoft took the stage in Orlando to talk about Windows 8 and briefly showed off Office 2013. This is the second time that Microsoft has shown off a live demo of the platform and another interesting note is that the Office 2013 seems all but official as the branding can clearly be seen above. Microsoft held until the very end of the hour long presentation to finally show off something new but the wait, as it seems, was well worth it as we finally got a look in to how Office will look (and act) on Windows RT. While only the Excel application was shown, the application does look quite similar to the traditional Office suite that we know and love. This preview was another small window in to the world of Windows RT and as we get closer to launch of Windows 8 RT and Office 2013, we will surely hear more about both platforms and how the two products will mesh in the tablet environment.
