Here's a short tutorial and screenshot tour explaining how to resize Launcher in Unity 2D in Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin from its default size of 48px down to 32px by making several configuration files changes.

If you mean resizing the icons from there, that facility wasn't available for Unity 2D last time I looked. That's why one had to resort to the lengthy way of editing files. That facility was there only for Unity 3D (again, the last time I looked). I'll check again.

Okay, ... this is with a fully updated system:
In Unity 3D, right-clicking on the desktop gives an option to "Change Desktop Background". Choosing that and then, in the "Look" tab, there is "Launcher icon size" and a slider. In Unity 2D, there is no such thing. Also, it maybe that 12.10 will no longer have Unity 3D and Unity 2D, possibly because of the improvements that the Red Hat team made in GNOME 3.4. So I'm going to wait and see. I'll continue with Xfce till then.

Further, each time they upgrade Unity, the work will have to be done again. I'm not sure it's a good idea to restore a backup in this case because the author had noted that the relevant lines that need to be changed maybe be pushed up or down. All in all, it's too much of a hassle in my opinion, given how often Unity is upgraded: https://launchpad.net/unity/+series PS: just got another Unity update ![]()
