How do you backup your important personal files?

Most of the thread topics here are about backing-up the system drive/partition and it seems that just about everyone uses an imaging program to accomplish that.

Seeing that many of you keep your data, docs, photos, music, etc., on a separate drive/partition (as I do) I'm curious as to your method for backing-up those files? ....image backup, file-by-file backup, cloud backup, or what?

I use Robocopy for individual files.

 

I just copy files to a thumb drive in between creating images.

Since it only takes me about 10 minutes to save a full image, (5 minutes for differential), it's not a big deal and I make sure I do so regularly.

 

I used to copy my data and docs to a thumb (flash) drive until I somehow lost it while traveling (which I do often)! So I'm giving serious thought to the cloud...

 

Dropbox!

You get 2.00GB free. But, if I introduce you, you get another 0.50GB free thus making a total of 2.50BG free. I will get also 0.50GB free too.

I am now at 16.50GB free, and you will make me 17.00GB free. A total of 18.00GB free is allowed.

I use 3 methods. USB Drives, Portable HDD Drives and Partition.

 

Dropbox transfers your file encrypted to the cloud. It then syncs to your other computers through the LAN, so all your files on all your computers are updated automatically.

Then your files are available in Dropbox un-encrypted.

But, if you want your files in Dropbox to be encrypted, then you need Cloudfogger with Dropbox.

So, if someone hacks into your Dropbox account, they cannot get your files as they are encrypted. Or, the govt......

While I appreciate your suggestion, 2GB isn't nearly adequate for my needs, whereas 5GB would be. So I'd be interested in recommendations for a really good cloud backup service which offers that (free) amount of storage.

You will get to 5GB free in no time, just PM me. I am at 16.50GB free now.

Dropbox is the best.

1. It syncs through the LAN.
2. It only sync the changes in Truecrypt, Outlook. For example, if you have 0.5GB Truecrypt and you upload it.
A. It will sync to your other computers through LAN and not through internet.
B. If you make a small change in your 0.5GB Truecrypt then it will go deep and only upload that small change, rather the whole 0.5BG again.

Also, Cloudfogger works best with Dropbox. See my above post #7.

 

If your not willing to pay a modest amount to protect your data then its possibly not worth much to you.

In addition to Rx and images, as well as syncing files to a 2nd location on my drive (with versioning), my critical files are automatically backed up (again versioning) as they change to an of-site location. The service I use is IDrive.

I use usb flash drive, portable hdd and skydrive to backup my important files.

 

I store images in two places...two separate external hard drives...one of which is locked in my safe.

 

I backup to multiple internal SATA hard drives and to a network RAID1 Server (which I leave turned off most of the time). The software that I use for backup is Syncback Free.

 

To a external HD using Roadkil's Unstoppable Copier.

 

To my NAS box and to google drive (£2 a year for 20GB)

 

Backup personal data!

Hi,

I use Keriver 1-Click restore free to backup system. I looking for a software to backup my personal data.

I am currently looking at Toucan and Cobian bakcup.

Which one should I use? Any other suggestions is welcome.

+1 for Cobian Backup

It's fully featured, and offers functions and features that most free programs don't have.

Toucan looks interesting though, looks simple and to the point.

I say, try both of them out and go with the one that feels comfortable for your needs.

You do have to fool around with it a little to understand everything it does, but you'll get the hang of it.

I use windows explorer to backup my personal data to an external hard drive. Simple and get the job done. LOL..

Cobian backs up our servers every night, without fail. Has been in place for years, rock solid software.

Not upgraded to the new v11, as we have no need to rock the boat, so cannot speak for that.
