OK here is what I used a long time ago to edit a font in an msstyles file in XP. First you need an old version of ResEdit. I have version 2.200010. Google it "ResEdit 2.200010" and it will be the first one. The newest version of ResEdit will not open msstyles files.

Open your style and you will see all sorts of entries on the left. What you want is the textfiles. Now the fun begins. You have to do a lot of searching through these files to find the fonts you want.

In my case I wanted to change the start menu "all programs" font from whatever it was to Segoe UI, 9. (Of course, bare in mind that this particular font in not on XP natively. I had to install it.) I found it under this heading and simply changed it:

[StartMenu::Toolbar]
BgType = ImageFile
ImageFile = Noir\StartGroupBackground.bmp
SizingType = Stretch
SizingMargins = 6, 5, 3, 4
ContentMargins = 0, 0, 0, 0
Font = Segoe UI, 9
TextColor = 255 255 255
FillColorHint = 255 255 255
AccentColorHint = 48 127 229
