I know O&O SafeErase has that option, as well as many others. Not free.

When you say 00 data, I assume that you mean "zero write" to all hard drive sectors.

There are many wipers that will do this.

Typically, the hard drive manufacturer's bootable Diagnostics Disks have a "zero write" option.

Some freeware options are:

1. Terabyte's Copy/Wipe bootable CD
2. Partition Wizard bootable CD

I have a license to BootIt Bare Metal which has several wipe options including a "zero write" to all hard drive sectors. BootIt Bare Metal is not free.

It should probably be clarified if you are looking for something to wipe the entire drive or just free space on a non-empty drive.

Spybot Search & Destroy has a file shreader. I am not sure how it shreds the file. It uses the term "chops". You can change the number of "chops".

CrapCleaner has a File Shredder/Eraser that allows you several options for the overwrite method used.

My original recommendation of O&O SafeErase still stands then. There is a free trial period available if you want to test it to see if it is the product for you.

The portable tool called Blank And Secure might be what you're after:

http://softwareok.com/?seite=Microsoft/BlankAndSecure

Another option could be DP Shredder:

You can create a 'Zero Fill' pattern in Eraser ( I use 5.8.8 ). Go into the erasing preferences where it lists all the algorithms and click 'Add'. There you will get the option to set the pattern...it auto fills with zeros by default.

PD

EDIT: I was under the impression you were looking for something to wipe the entire drive not just the freespace, but i guess ill still leave my comment because others may get something out of it!

Many people don't know this, but if your using a Modern Hard Drive it has a built in feature called Secure Erase.

http://cmrr.ucsd.edu/people/Hughes/SecureErase.shtml

you can download the secure erase utility here which will enable you to wipe your drive using secure erase.

This is one of the best ways to wipe a drive IMO! because it overwrites bad sectors, unlike other wiping tools...

You can read this PDF Tutorial on Disk Drive Sanitation for a better understanding of it!

thou this might not be for the job you are looking for ill leave my 2 cents as well , just use dban with autonuke command, for complete sanatized hdd cleans, factory fresh or simply use an industrial strength shredder on the hdd, that should securely dispose of it ....but wait theres more ...its free ..dban that is , not sure bout the shredder xD

p.s: warlockz is right about newer hdds having secure erase feature btw , thou most people already know about it

Relying on overwriting freespace is dangerous because that file could have traces of it in many places in the OS or other 3rd party software aswell on your Hard Drive. windows basically makes records of everything on your drive unless you tell it not to by disabling many services. system restore, shadow, search, registry, thumbs.db ect, ect, ect, you also have file/cluster tips to worry about which can hold pieces of data, so if their is an option in your wiper to wipe file/cluster tips enable it.

I will recommend East-Tech Eraser, R-wipe and clean, or CCleaner with CCleaner Enhancer, but its still not 100% unless you wipe your entire drive. and im unsure if CCleaner wipes Cluster/File Tips?

The use of Full Disk Encryption is advised if your dealing with sensitive files!

Dban doesn't overwrite Bad sectors, and you never know what could be stuck in bad sectors. if their is any bad sectors?

Then what you need is HardWipe

http://hardwipe.com/

This is what I use, and it's 100% Free. I honestly think it's the best file wiper I have used.

Keep using Eraser As someone else said, you can define a zero fill pattern and use it to erase the file with zeros.

Mantra made a clarification back several posts:
"i wasn't precise. i did mean file wiper/shredder."
He doesn't want to wipe a whole drive, he doesn't want to wipe free space, he wants to shred files (and with all zeros).

I think the Eraser with custom wipe is your best option, mantra. Easy right-click erasure and it's effective.

Hmmmmm. I would try seeing if you can find the install version of 5.8.8 (but you can also try the current v6) and see if that corrects the problem. I use BCWipe (pay) and haven't used Eraser in a while...I just knew it could do custom patterns...and I had it on my disk to test, but didn't actually try wiping anything with it. Sorry. I do get the same error with the portable version.
