Well, to be fair, there are differences. One only need read the release notes to see that.

I agree it much ado about very little. They're trying to be Chrome. If they keep going down this path, it will, IMO, lead to their demise sooner than later. I like FF. I hope I am wrong...

to be fair, there isn't much difference between chrome 4 or 5 and, what is it today, Chrome 17 or 18? ![]() yeah, there's a built PDF reader and Flash, but... it's still just a browser. ![]()

That prediction has been made before, and it was wrong then too. I hear the incompatibility issue complaint a lot, and it mostly comes from people using obscure/not very popular extensions. Incompatibility is not just a Firefox issue, Chrome goes through it too, as does Opera (for those in Opera that work to begin with). These changes (and most all changes) aren't "BS", they're future-proofing and keeping up with their direct competition. In other words, it's business. Again, I have to tell those who criticize Firefox, to criticize Chrome too, as neither one is doing anything all that different from the other. |

A lot has changed between those versions, at least under the hood. Things have slowed down considerably though the past few versions. I find that a good thing, using the browser as a test lab for things Google thought they'd like was just making the browser unstable. |

The release number and add-ons compatibility have nothing in common (at least now). They can break add-ons releasing version 12.0.1 tomorrow. The number is just a number, what's in the release matters.

The "Home page" in v. 13 is a clean and elegant design. Sponsored (and designed?) by Google.

IMO, Mozilla oughta focus on providing some basic options for end users for example...
There is no way of preventing Firefox from switching to a newly opened tab ![]()

Tab Mix Plus can do that. After you install the add-on - options - events - tab opening - focus... - uncheck whatever you want

What about on the "Tabs" page in the Options where it has a checkbox that says "When I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately"? Does it not work or am I misunderstanding what you are asking for? |

It has been there a while (at least, a year), disabled by default. Preferences/Options > Advanced > General.

Not exactly, Avi's excellent SmoothWheel is being added to the Gecko engine. This is a must have on a laptop I reckon.
