NONE of these. I do not use webmail. I see no particular value in it. Am I wrong?

Plus I use Hotmail for those 'throwaway' addresses that come in so handy from time to time.

I have a Gmail and Windows Live and Windows Live is by far the buggiest piece of garbage I have ever used. Gmail is great though.

I voted hotmail because it is my oldest account by far, and also the one that most people have and use.
I preferred it when I could use OE with hotmail. I used live for awhile, but it wasn't really my thing. I dislike some features of the web interface immensely. Gmail is ok, but honestly it doesn't really do much for me, but then, none of the web based email accounts do. I do not use ISP provided email, ever. I may not be super enthusiastic about web mail providers like those listed, but they do have one thing the ISP does not - easy access from anywhere, and I don't have to worry about whether or not my mail was downloaded to my computer and no longer on the mail server. That is why I have never used ISP provided accounts. I have mail from long time still on hotmail. On a side note, I remember a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, when my wife needed to know my email address, and I told here blah-blah-blah at hotmail, she laughed and said "hot male, yeah right, hot mail --- oh! hot mail". I think I split something in my gut that never has healed. How you gonna get that using gmail? It just doesn't compare lol. Sul.

Gmail of course, it is super fast and safe. I used live (hotmail) before, but some emails never arrived.

Gmail because I like the new clean look plus the email, contacts and calendar integrate into my Android very well. I like yahoo also but that's mainly because it has always been so easy to use.

I find 10 Minute Mail better suited for that, unless you had human interaction in mind.

What are any advantageous differences with lavabit or mail.com over gmail, gmx, etc?

Tobacco, I hope you are done with your coffee as I also think Gmail is the best on the internet: getting better every year, great spam filter, calendar, docs, antivirus, almost 8GB of mail allowed, heavy e-mails (10 MB+) sent without any problems, etc.
I tried GMX and Hotmail, sorry, but they are not in the same league as Gmail.

Based on what you and others say about it, I might have to try Gmail. It would be great if I could simply import everything from Hotmail. ![]()

You can certainly try it, and you can configure Gmail to import automatically all new mail from Hotmail.
