The estimated time to create my full backup (~350GB) to network fileserver is 9 1/2 hours. The network is showing about 55% utilization, and i suspect the 100BaseT network is the bottleneck. Just wondering if anyone has any comment about the impact of LAN speed.
Is the software maxing out? or is it throttling back because of the network speed? |

The 100Mbps network is the problem. For a rough example, if you consider 80Mbps real throughput on the network which is approximately 10Mbytes/second then your 350,000 MB backup will take 35,000 seconds or 583 minutes which is 9.7 hours.
You can get speeds comparable to USB2 by using a 1Gbps network. |

If I had a nickel for every confusion about Mb/s bandwidths and MB/s transfer rates, I'd be a zillionaire.
