Default Comodo A/V

I dont see many people using it, and was wondering why? It seems to have a sandbox combined with cloud verification / white listing. Also being produced here in the USA, so when the euro goes under you wont be left wondering whats going to happen with some of the other A/Vs and your personal information. Am i missing something?

It's AV engine is far from impressive and it's glitches and quirks are annoying. And sometimes despite its theoretical perfect protection it just fails flat.

Hi
The biggest problem I personally have with Comodo AV, is there high rate of false positives. For the average user it can create some seriously problems.
With Comodo you actually have a greater possibility that you are hit by a fp rather than hit by malware, IMHO.

An AV engine far from perfect; many false positives; many (many) bugs; an amateurish approach; a policy based on "it's never our fault"...
Of course, with Comodo it's always on a basis of Love/Hate... I hate.

This is the issue I have with it too. When I last tried Comodo AV, it reported over 25 detections on a scan of my system, all of which were false positives.

A/V ?

Jokes apart, one of my friend who is not at all tech savvy using Comodo Free IS more than a year without any problem. Less FP also in his case. I only saw it has quarantined taracopy. Very little system impact for sure.

I find CIS good including the AV, no FP's prob here. Detection is also good.

The only thing is you need to know a little how it works so an average user or novice may get confused & end up messing the system.

I am waiting for version 6 beta which is expected to be out at the end of this april. Particularly waiting for version 6 coz it will have full virtualization which will solve the prob of few apps not installing in sandbox. And many more interesting features.

Some people like to go hand-in-hand with their pest exterminator. Diving right in, understanding as much as they can about the pests and procedures for getting rid of them, climbing, crawling & squeezing all over their house, fully involved at every stage.
Others are happy to employ a pest exterminator who they trust, and let him/her get on with it.

Some people like to use CIS and find it very effective.
Others don't.

Same here...the FW is excellent...it's not all bad. I have seen a lot of people who don't like Comodo based on things other than their products.

Yes, you're missing some factual information about how effective it actually is. A list of features only suggests a product's potential and is no guarantee of what it is actually capable of.

Here is a review from pcmag.com. It's just one review and not the word of GOD, but it has a lot more useful information than the posts here saying basically "it works for me".

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2399139,00.asp

It's important to factor in vendor support when evaluating a product. Is the support competent and professional? If you have a problem do you feel confident you will actually be helped? I recently decided to stop using an otherwise good product because I lost confidence in the support.

No bad impressions for ComodoAV so far from my side, but still I do choose other free AV coupled with ComodoFW They should put more effort in proactive part.

I have not been much of a Comodo user, but what I know from reading up on the matter is supposedly Comodo's AV engine is relatively sub-par. It's strength comes in Defense+, but unfortunately, for more dynamic systems especially, this will be very chatty and unsuitable for non-advanced PC users.

Whitelist based security measures are inarguably the best at preventing exploits and all forms of malware from infecting the system, however, they offer no protection from social engineering, fraud, or lack of user education.

There just is no quick fix. Everyone will use something different and swear by it.

I dont think slagging off AV comparatives because they didnt recieve the results they expected helped their cause very much either.

Thats probably why melih had the idea of using other avs for detection instead ,in DACS....which seems to have gone awfully quiet since this time last year

You can apply that rule to any AV and you will be right

I think most of the people that have been answering have not use CAV lately. Also CIS 6 is around the corner and it will include a Behaviour Blocker and a revamp of the AV thanks to valkirie addition in the cloud btw other things

Here are some recent tests about CAV:
http://www.programmifree.com/confron...ivirus2011.htm
http://www.programmifree.com/confron...ivirus2012.htm
http://trsec.net/threads/trsec-2012-...lar%C4%B1.974/

I can tell you that CAV is not the best AV but it's in the top of the table and better than most of the paid alternatives
On the other hand IMO CIS is the best free/paid security suite and it's free.
