** VPN, Tor, Anonymous Services etc., Read & Post Here **
Ok, so everyone is clear here on this, I'm not trying to be the Wilders Forum Police, but I have taken the time to make a post that is suppose to cover anything and everything related to VPNs, Tor and any other anonymous services, anything that simply falls into this category, placed in one location.
Sure it's a lot of pages and a lot of information, that makes it great, because if you're going to mess with any of this and you're not going to take the time to read and learn then you shouldn't be playing around.
Here's a perfect point to make as to why you need to read; (Geeks not allowed to answer, newbies only...)
1. Do you know the difference between MITM & TLS Auth?
2. What files do you expect to get when you use OpenVPN?
3. What countries should you be using and staying away from?
4. Should I be using AES, Twofish, or Blowfish?
5. Do I want PPTP, IPsec, or OpenVPN?
These are just a few simple points and there is much much more than this.
Sure you probably want to jump in, ask who's the best, get an answer and be on your way, well then I have one thing to say, I don't think you really value your security that much to only invest this little time in it. Now that wasn't meant to be harsh, it's just a cold hard fact that this is a world that does need some time and effort invested in it, if you really want to be truly safe!
Also like most people you'll probably being saying I don't do much so I'm not really all that worried, or just because I don't do anything illegal I have nothing to worry about.
Those two thoughts above couldn't be further from the truth, because it doesn't matter what you do, it matters what you know and how to protect yourself, because, you're a person with a life, some identity and friends, family, job, etc., these are things that can be robbed and flipped upside down in your world online.
So again, I'm not trying to be the MAN around here and tell everyone what to do and say, HEY you have to post where I'm asking and read there. I'm just saying it's better that you do, keep less clutter off the forum for us to chase around looking for, where instead, it can all be kept in one place.
So take some serious time, putting some serious effort into this new venture and in the end you'll walk away better and more secure! But if you're going to be like most people when they have a problem and just want a quick fix, then don't expect much out of this to help keep you safe. I don't mean that you need to be a mechanic to drive a car, but can you at least change the spark plugs, change the oil and tires, or you don't know a dip stick from a tire iron to save your life?
I'm also not saying that everyone has to obtain the same level of knowledge or become geeks, but if you're not even willing to put many hours or weeks into this, then what do you expect, a 5 minute get security help and be done?
Just remember this one fact, there is a professional black market on the internet that affects people everyday, so don't think you're not next if you're not willing to invest time in your safety, because it happens all the time to unsuspecting people. Also don't become complacent thinking that just because you've gotten away without any problems for years that it's never going to happen to you.
I'm also the guy that put a lot of work into this for this forum, so I'm asking you for my sanity as well, so I don't have to keep replying to the same types of posts over and over, when people are not willing to take a little time and read before asking, and for everyone else too that replies and tries to help out.
Granted that post doesn't have everything, but in time hopefully it will and it will continue to grow, not only with my success but yours too!
So if you have any VPN, Tor or Anonymous related types of questions, please read, look here and ask here;
P.S. This isn't about me, I'm just a geek trying to make things better for everyone! Please keep this bumped so others can read and keep it all alive!
Security Comes By Education, Not Tons Of Software!
