Default PrevX 3: still any use aside Kaspersky?

Hey!

Right now I've got Kaspersky AV 11 and PrevX 3.0 installed at my laptop. I like the idea of having an extra layer of protection on a mobile device (which get's connected to different networks, has therefore a slight higher risk of infection, etc.).

In the past, there have been some occasions where Kaspersky didn't detect a certain file, while PrevX did.

However, most of us know PrevX 3 hasn't had that much updates lately.

Since my laptop isn't the newest anymore, I'm wondering: when taking into consideration the amount of extra resources PrevX takes up, does it still add a decent layer of extra protection, or would I be better of removing it and installing a different tool?

Also: I've bought a 2 year license for 2 pc's a while ago. When I'm removing the product, it would be a waste of money.

Of course this is some part of buyer's risk, but since Webroot took over, Prevx development kinda disappoints me.

What do you think about it? Is having PrevX 3 installed still a good idea?

I would keep it still. Maybe update your AV to latest 2012 version

Even though there has been no Program updates to Prevx 3 you still have the full Anti-Malware protection and at some point all Prevx 3 users will be upgraded to Webroot SecureAnywhere!

KAV 2012 is a lot lighter than 2011, so if you want extra resources, updating to 2012 is a good idea. Your Prevx license will be updated to WSA somewhere in the future so if you don't want to waste the money you could wait until the upgrade or use another product until you get your WSA license.

Thanks for replying.

My experience with upgrading KAV is it does require more resources. However, if you say 2012 actually might boost performance, I'll give it a try.

My KAV license expires in about a month and a half . Edit seems 2012 works fine with the 2011 license, win-win .

I know my PrevX licence will be upraded to WSA, but for what I understand, WSA can't be compared to PrevX. It can't be run asside other AV applications, like PrevX can. Right?

WSA can be ran with other AV's and Firewalls just like Prevx as it was designed to, just have a look in the forums here! I use WSA and VIPRE in all of my VM's without issues! Some use KIS, NIS and ESS with WSA without issues!

No Eagle Creek...WSA is also designed with (as much as possible) compatibility
to run with other AVs and security software, just like P3.

Thanks for the replies, TH/all WSA can indeed still be used alongside other AVs just as Prevx can, and P3 is still being actively updated centrally despite there not being any local software updates.
