Default Windows Genuine Advantage

I installed RSS Free and after PC restarted got message pop-up about changes being made and requiring me to re-activate Windows within 3 days. I had Avast running during install and it messed with the install stopping the core from installing. I have since removed Avast and all traces of RSS Free but I'm wondering if I try to install RSS Free again will I get that Windows Genuine Advantage message again? I have also since re-installed and re-activated Windows XP Pro SP3.

Hi Rain9 and welcome to the forums

The issue with WGA is not expected and must be due to the interaction between your existing install of Avast! and RSS due to the sandboxing in Avast!. What we recommend in this scenario is to uninstall both programs then reinstall RSS first and then Avast! second which should clear the interference and get you up and running.

You may need to contact Microsoft if you get that WGA message again for any reason for Windows registration assistance, but it will not be because of a block or change by RSS itself...

Hi Coldmoon,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I was browsing this forum earlier and read something about Avira Anti-Virus being compatable with RSS Free. Can you tell me if Avira is more friendly with RSS Free than Avast or would it make no difference which Anti-Virus program I use as long as RSS Free is installed first?

Cheers,

There should be no issue with either AV but some have reported that the AVs MAY cause interference with the installation of RSS/RVS. For most, there is no need to do anything special, but for a small minority, order of install makes a significant difference.

My take here is that if you had this happen with one of them, chances are that you will encounter the same issue with the other so it would probably be best if you install RSS first and then your chosen third party AV.

Using the 30 day trial version of RSS now. Seems easy enough to understand and use.

Thanks for your help.
