Default Encrypted email server.

I just set up a second email account with my usual ISP, and the email host popped up a warning to the effect that the outgoing mail server does not use encryption. I've used the ISP/mail server forever. Should I care whether it is encrypted or not?

Thanks

Default Re: Encrypted email server.

Email by default does not use encrytion it is sent in the clear, you the end user would have to manually encrypt any outgoing messages you wouldnt want intercepted. Most webmail providers will allow or mandate users to connect to their services through SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) however that is to provide confidentiality and integrity to the end user from would be hackers/sniffers on a public network.

When sending mail, users can only control encryption at the first hop from a client to its configured outgoing mail server. At any further hop, messages may be transmitted with or without encryption, depending solely on the general configuration of the transmitting server and the capabilities of the receiving one.

Thank you. I will stop worrying about it.
