Default Openssl Advice

I am looking for some clarification if I am performing an operation with openssl correctly. I have been experimenting with different elliptical curves for cryptography using the options openssl provides. However when I generate my keys I notice in my text editor all my keys start with the same 4 to 6 characters. I was wondering if anyone who has experience with EC keys knows if this is by design or am I supposed to feed the program random data at some point?
