E Mail Question

Someone received an Email from me that I didn't send. I am almost positive it didn't come from my computer. I guess they would have to have my password to access my Email account and send it that way. If so how did they get my password? I use Outlook Express, Windows XP on BellSouth.net DSL.

Email "From:" address spoofing is one of the easiest things in the world to do. Anyone can send an email and have their email client set to a bogus, i.e. someone else's, email address.

The thing to do is to get a full copy of the email, with all the headers intact and review where it actually may have come from.

More likely than not, they didn't access your email account to send it. While that is possible, it's not the first thing to assume until yoiu've reviewed the message.

Is it an email you composed?
Can you get a copy of same & examine all the header information?

Well, since you can't get a copy of the email to review the headers, you'll never know for sure what happened. So, the default advice would apply... Change your email/ISP account password just to be sure that no one else has access in the future.
