Default Converting mac Created text to be editable on windows.

I need to do a joint written document with someone who uses a Mac. I use Windows7. Is there any way or is there a program that would allow each of us to be able to work on and edit the same document from the same disk?

For example, I write the first draft on windows7 either with wordpad or Word Perfect, copy it to a disk(preferably) or send it as an email and him being able to take what I have written and make changes and send or give it back to me so that I can make further changes on windows?

Hl, hawki
I work alot on Windows, Mac and linux.
LibreOffice is perfect for this kind of multiplatform document editing.
