Default How to update Phoenix Bios ?

Hi,

I have an amilo pro v3505 laptop with a Phoenix Bios that I'd like to update.

I've hear that the maximum Ram Memory supported is 1 Gb. Nevertheless, some people have passed to work with 2X2 Gb but in this case, it seems that Phoenix Bios only detected 3 Gb.

That's why I plan to update my bios, in order to install 2X2 Gb.

What's the best update drivers programs according to you ?

Thanks for your help !

I have already checked it ! My bios signature is from 2006, I can suppose that it has been updated. Moreover, I installed Biosagentplus and it clearly appeared that my bios is outdated.

You have to get it from the Manufacture site and if they don't have an update there is nothing you can do because of supported hardware!

From Phoenix website, it redirects to the Biosagentplus software to update my driver and I ran this program and I found that my Bios is outdated. So, I need to update, that's the point.

I'd like also to check with an update 'drivers programs'

the bios does not come from phoenix. it comes from the notebook / desktopm manufacture phoenix is just what its based on. so you will not find a update from phoenix. unless the manufacture has a newer one you can download not much you can do. for your laptop you would need to get it from fujitsu / siemens NOT from phoenix, max memory supported is 3gb

You will find the latest BIOS here:

http://support.ts.fujitsu.com/Downlo...code=0&NavIDs=

Note that updating BIOS is a risky proposition and that problems can occur from time to time.

Thanks, I will check my bios version, but I guess I have the latest version.

On question for zfactor, is it a difference between 2X1 Gb ram memory and 1X2Gb memory, in terms of speed time ?

it would depend on the timings of the ram you buy. no matter what you will not be in dual channel with 3gb only if you run 2x1gb of the same exact sticks. but this doesnt make a huge difference. if you use a 1gb and a 2gb stick the system will default to the slowest speed of the 2 sticks.

If I understand you, 1X2Gb + 1X1Gb is the same as 2X1Gb ? As you said "the system system will default to the slowest speed of the 2".

The best way will be to take only 1X2Gb, won't you ?

it depends if you want to run in dual channel mode you should do 2x1gb. if you run a single 1x2gb you will not get dual channel mode. personally i would run the full 3gb myself of you can. this way if you get a 1gb stick that is slower than the 2gb stick your system will default to the slowest of the 2 sticks you used so it doesnt matter if they match 100%. if you only want to run 2gb then i would get 2x1gb to get the dual channel mode.

HI Zfactor,
Is the 'dual channel mode' more fast than single mode ? Would be1X2Gb more faster than 2X1 Gb ?

If I use 3 Gb (1X2Gb + 1Gb) would it be the same as 2X1Gb Ram memory stick,is that correct ? In this case, I don't understand why to use 3Gb as you told me instead of 2X1Gb.

The dual channel mode is indeed faster but the difference is not very significant. If price is a concern, don't worry about dual channel. Otherwise, always get RAM sticks in multiples of 2, i.e. 2x1GB, 2x2GB, etc.

Not exactly. In this case, the system will work in "Flex mode" dual channel, provided your system supports it (I think it does). Basically, 1GB of memory from the 2GB stick will be treated as dual channel with the other 1GB stick, while the remaining 1GB on the first RAM stick will work as single channel.

It's a decent enough alternative. But like I said, unless you're a serious encoder or gamer, the differences in performance are not very significant between single and dual channel.

I think I will take one stick of 2Gb or 3Gb, I don't know exactely !

I keep away the dual channel mode.
