Compare with Hotmail, GMail, Yahoo, Yandex.ru (a good provider!) - they are often making changes and rolling out new features - proving there is an active team behind the service you are using. Always good if you run into problems!

Yes, I had a feeling that there was little support. Although I had a prompt reply when I asked a question on their forum.

Mind you, the fact that it hasn't changed for a while may not be a bad thing. Yahoo! Mail was great around ten years ago, until they went through various 'improvement' phases.

Hotmail is a bad joke compared to Gmail, its not even fair comparing both of them. I have a Hotmail account from way back (which keeps filling up with spam due to their terrible junk filter) and there is not a single thing I can think of that Hotmail does better.

It would be nice if you post your thoughts on workarounds in another thread (like Customizing Hotmail's Appearance?). I look forward to learning something new

There are extensions for Firefox (zebratables or something is one that comes to mind) that can change the background of pages etc.

Funny, I can say the same thing the other way around, my Gmail accounts (yes, I have multiple) are spam infested

Gmail currently offers 7,something GB of storage space, while Hotmail offers ever-growing unlimited space (the more you need, the more it gives).

Gmail currently limits e-mail attachments to 25MB max, while Hotmail offers a much larger 10GB limit, thanks to its integration with SkyDrive.

Hotmail has some features that Gmail still doesn't, like support to aliases and Active view.

Check and compare. But please, don't come back saying "I don't need blablabla"...

As for Spam, I have very little on GMail, AOL or Hotmail & it is virtually non-existent on Yahoo! Mail. I guess I'm lucky in that respect, either that or the spam filters are working well for me.

I have been using Hotmail with the Outlook Connector for years and like the fact that I can sync that between 2 machines effortlessly. Which is more than I can say about the stupid POP account I get from my ISP. I wish more of them would provide IMAP.

Thanks for the info on some new Hotmail features, guest. The attachment support is definitely something I can use. I just like Gmail's UI a lot more, and since I also use GTalk to keep in touch with friends and family members, and have an Android phone, its the ecosystem I fit in.

I guess numbers speak by themselves...
Hotmail has been greatly improved.

I love Hotmail but for one feature - the intrusive msn ad in the right frame - I've tried a couple of tricks, including the impeccable otherwise HOST blocking one, yet to no avail, and I can't stand it - any tips guys??

I don't see any ad's in Hotmail, Gmail, ect. simply by using the Adblock Plus browser extension for Chrome/Firefox.

There are browser add-on specifically for ad's in webmail.

'Webmail Ad Blocker' for Chrome and Firefox.

The ad doesn't load when using Fanboy's TPL's, so I assume it won't when using Fanboy subscriptions in Firefox/Opera/Iron/etc.

You could also click the "close ad" button.

At one time Chrome often let ads through in various mail sites; one reason I was a fan of Iron's adblock .ini. However, if you type about:flags into the runbar & enable the Experimental Extension APIs:

Enables experimental extension APIs. Note that the extension gallery doesn't allow you to upload extensions that use experimental APIs.

& use it in conjunction with Adblock Plus for Google Chrome™ experimental builds it adblocks remarkably well.

^ of Hotmail main window and others, redirecting to msn service when clicked, definitely an Opera user, and was sure HOST blocking would suffice but was dead wrong or so it appears, thank a bunch for the useful hints gents!

right. lol

anyway, i signed in at My Opera Mail.

i can check my Hotmail account with My Opera Mail.
No bloody adds, and i don't have to put up with the browser 'flickering' when using Hotmail with Opera browser.

i'll test it further, but so far so good.
there's only a 1Gb limit for now but it's more than enough for me.

I still don't know where all these Hotmail ads are that are killing people, but I use AdBlock for Chrome (not AdBlock Plus) and I'm not seeing any ads at all.

i'd rather use a mail service that does not require me to install addons in my browser to make adds disappear.
if there's no adds, i don't need the addons.

i'm allergic to addons btw.

If you want to block Hotmail ads... I'm pretty sure one of the many hosts file that block ads have the domains added to them. I can't see the ads.

I'm also allergic to add-ons, specially when using them for sensitive tasks.
