Hi
I've read ESET kb article about NOD32 and Windows Defender. As the article was last revised in January 2010, I was wondering whether version 5 is still compatible. I only intend using Defender on demand. Regards |

I always turn off the realtime scanning piece of Windows Defender and leave the middle of the night scan when I find it on customer's computers - no matter if we're on 4.2 or 5.0 - it works fine that way.

Hello,
No issues noted between Windows Defender and ESET NOD32 Antivirus (or ESET Smart Security) v5. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky

Me too. On my main desktop they both play nicely together in real time.

If NOD32 and Windows Defender are both running in real-time, there's a warning in the Action Centre window about having two antispyware programs running.

Sorry I don't get that warning.

Is this was you are talking about? Both play nicely together on this box.

In Action Centre I click the drop-down menu to the right of Security and it says both Windows Defender and NOD32 are turned on and adds "Running two or more antispyware programs at the same time can cause your computer to run slowly."

In W7 i have the same message but everything is running smooth. No problem at all. In Vista there is no message at all.

Running smoothly must mean no crashes. In reality, anytime two different softwares watch and monitor everytime you open, download and negotiate files you will not only have unrealized slowdowns, but they monitor each other too. I can't imagine windows defender finding anything NOD does not.... I"ve used NOD for many years.. turned Windows defender off for quite a while now because I never discovered anything it found anyway. Has "anybody" ever had NOD running and had windows defender find something NOD didn't find first? Windows defender may be good for people who run naked with no protection at all, but even then I doubt WD would come close to saving you against all the cutting edge threats out there.... so why bother with it?... turn it off! If you could run 5 AV programs at once without crashing.. would you? Just because my Car has the muscle to run with a 30% decrease in power, I still prefer the extra 30% power for my own use as well as gas mileage.. "battery life".
