Hi,
I trialled Dr. Web over a year ago but was amazed at how slow their daily scan was - started at 1am and was still running by the time I was leaving for work 5 hours later. Has anyone got any recent experience with Dr. Web AV (or whatever their current internet security package is) and know if they have improved their ghastly scanning speeds? Cheers all. |

Tried the latest version about three weeks ago and the scan is horrendously slow, still. It seemed nice, but after 3 hours it had only gone about a third of the way through my system. That's simply not acceptable.

Basically the situation is:
- Older Dr.Web 6.0 uses scanner component version 6.0 and scan engine version 5.0. This means single threaded scanner component + old scan engine == very slow scanning - Current Dr.Web 7.0 uses scanner component version 7.0, and scan engine version 5.0. This means multi-threaded scanner component + old scan engine == somewhat faster scanning, but still quite slow - The new scan engine 6.0 is in "soon to be released" state. After this new engine is released, the scanner speed will be as good as with any other competing antiviruses. On my core i5-2500 computer the scanning speeds have been with archives and "all files" selected as scan options: - Dr.Web 6.0, with engine 5.0 -> over 4 hours - Dr.Web 7.0, with engine 5.0 -> 2-3 hours - Dr.Web 7.0, with engine 6.0 -> 20 minutes Hopefully this answers your question. Today they released an update to the real-time monitor, to make it compatible for the upcoming release of these new components. So I guess the "dramatic" improvement to the scan speed is just around the corner. |

Who are the testing organizations that test Dr.Web? Dr. Web is something of a mystery to me.

I gave it a go and it was still as slow as I remembered. Not especially impressed!

Been on their site - is the new Version 7 the one that is supposed to be much faster and generally better? Has anyone here tried it?

I did a rough scan speed comparison between the new and old versions of both Dr.Web Cureit and Dr.Web Live CD. I saw about a 2X increase in scan speed with the new versions. If I remember correctly, Dr.Web says that their normal AV products should show about a 4X scan speed increase when comparing the latest version with the previous version.
