So say my computer has Windows XP and a firewall/HIPS installed. Everything works fine. But what if I want to compile stuff using MinGW (that is, GCC for Windows)? On its own the HIPS works fine; as does MSys, the CLI environment that comes with MinGW. But put them together, and the HIPS raises dozens of alerts about the myriad small executable files that make up MSys.
The same thing happens with MSysGit, and other CLI tools for Windows... Is there a way to make HIPS software less chatty about such software collections? e.g. do any major HIPS have some method of marking everything installed by a known safe installer as also safe? Or is most low-priced HIPS software just not designed with this stuff in mind? |
