Default formatted as NTFS on mac, read with windows, now wont mount on mac

I'm running macbook pro on 10.6.8 - paragon ntfs full purchased version is installed but it wont read drives that have been previously attached to windows.

At first I thought it was just a niggle that the drive had to be formatted with mac to work on both, and when i added things off my mac to the drive that was also useable with XP I was delighted.

Now having connected it back into the mac it's again unreadable

When I pay for something I expect it to at least work properly

so I'm using a new USB3 passport drive by Western Digital. I have a USB2 hard drive also by western digital in NTFS that isn't readable, although it was read fine until I installed the ntfs driver package.

this is very irritating, is there a fix for this yet?
I've read several threads and tried a few things but have just gotten more confused about what the issue may be.

thanks for any assistance
