I have used many many anti-virus software in the past, some were free and some were licensed.
We just upgraded my pc to a more powerful version (reference to my old slow pc) and celebrated wit a couple of friends with some drinks. We cracked some jokes about anti-virus software and here was online by my buddy Jason. He said "don't trust any anti-virus, because it is like a bulletproof vest. It does protect the vital part of your body but can never cover all. " I'm like... WTF... I'm confused.

The better analogy would be like Bullet resistant because there not bullet prof.Basically what he is saying it may protect you at certain times and in certain areas but things can and will get past it.Depending on the Firepower and Ammo that comes your way.

I suppose you could compare it to a bullet-proof vest. However, this vest would have to only be resistant to the particular types of bullets which the company had seen before, and perhaps a few that it thought could be used in the future. However, there would still be a lot of bullets that would get past.
I don't think I'd feel very safe going into battle with a bulletproof vest like that. Would you?

Bulletproof or not, it's still a vital vest against malware.

most of common antivirus + firewall or suite can protect you from 90% and above threats and some very good antivirus 97-99% so if you not virus tester/p2p user/gamer/free or illegal crap-ware downloader and use little common sense you pretty 100% safe

Antivirus will not protect me better then what I have already. What I have is fast and never slows down with hours on end of web browsing. No crazy disk I/O from resident scanners. No conflicks. No false positives. I used sandboxie alone for years when I first joined wilders and never had infections.Cant say the same from a standalone resident scanner.

Right and as long as its contained and not let out its safe..Also the paid sandboxie can be configered so restricted to limit malware from running inside to begin with.If the browser is only allowed to run and access internet it limits what can happen inside SBIE and No access to documents, forced folders,Droped rights etc.
I am not saying a Antivirus will not keep people safe, what I am saying its not needed to keep people malware free. There is plenty of other options that provide far better protection. However adding Sandboxie + Antivirus makes a very solid combination.

AV is like a fishing net with holes in it. Sometimes you catch a fish, other times it finds its way through.
