Question regarding Shadowprotect cold imaging

Tried to use SP to perform cold image.
The disc is seeing the internal HD but not the external one (USB 2.5" HD) on which the image is to be saved.
The external HD is seen and work properly under My Computer.

Using laptop running Win7

Unless there is some really unique hardware in play here, I don't see why it doesn't see it. Have you tried reseating the USB cable (and checking all connections)? What version of the CD are you using?

As I mentioned, this is a passport (320gb) HD 2.5 inches USB connected.
Under Windows the HD can be used with no problem, I performed a backup image and SP (under Windows) is seeing the external HD, but the CD (cold image) is not seeing it.
I connected an other external HD (80gb) HD 2.5 inches - same issue.

Are you using USB 3.0 ports? If so, you must load the drivers in the WinPE.

And, the legacy USB is active in BIOS.

I have a few USB Passport drives that work fine under the SP CD. Each computer is different...usual BIOS keys are F2, F8, F9, sometimes ESC...you can look it up online.

I meant the computer ports, not the external disks ports. Check if they are USB 3.0. USB 3.0 ports are blue.

port size).
Is there any other way to check/confirm that?

I opened the BIOS System Configuration.
Under "USB Legacy support" the ECP button is ticked

I modified the external HD identification letter (was D) to a higher one (M), booted using the CD and now the CD can see it (under H letter)
I will test again with additional external HD connected together (to every USB port) and see if the CD can see all of them . I will post here the results

It is good that it worked for you by changing to higher drive letter.

The USB port 3.0 is same size as 2.0 and is backward compatiable. So, if your HD is 2.0 then the USB port will work as 2.0.

You can tell if any of the ports are 3.0 by color. Instead of white color, it will be blue color.

P.S. Only the latest laptops will have one of the four ports as USB 3.0 blue color.

KOR thanks for the clarifications. That helped.

In fact the PC has two USB 3 ports (blue "tongue" in the middle of the slot) and USB 2 ports (one of which labelled "eSATA").
Any external HD connected to these USB 2 ports are seen by the SP disc, even a 2gb USB stick FAT formatted.
