    Hello,

First of all, you are running hijackthis out of a temporary directory. Can you please create a folder in My Documents and call it Hijack (or something similar). Then extract hijackthis into the folder you have created and run it from there. The reason for this is that Hijackthis cannot create backup files whilst it is being run from a temporary folder

    When you have done this, then make sure all browsers and windows are closed except for hijackthis and put a check against the following and click 'fix checked';

    Hi captain,

    Wecome to Wilders!

Your log looks clean now so your problems should be fixed.

Also, I merged your other post into this thread. Please adhere to our policy of only one poster with a problem to a thread and please refrain from posting the same problem twice in two different threads. I had already worked a fix for your other post after spitting it off to a thread of its own only to find this thread also. This causes extra work for our staff and is very inefficient. No offense intended.

Hopefully your problems are solved now ;) .

    Regards,
    Kent

    Hi Kent,
Unfortunately, the problem is still there. Motor-search still comes up when I try to get to yahoo, google, altavista, etc. Even if I shut down my internet connection and type in www.yahoo.com, the motor search page still comes up, so it must be on my hard drive somewhere. This is really annoying. Any ideas?

    Hi captain,

Please download HOSTER. Unzip the program and then run it. Click "Copy Hosts File to Clipboard" and then paste the results here in a post.

    Download and run: http://www.spywareinfoforum.com/~merijn/files/CWShredder.exe
Use the Fix button and follow the instructions you will receive.

If that does not help fix this one:
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = 127.0.0.1
But you really need to have a backup of that one so move HijackThis to a separate folder as Subratam advised a few posts ago.
If you loose your connection entirely by doing that, in HijackThis click Config > Backups. Select the Proxy Override and click Restore.

    Regards,

    Pieter

Was there a problem following the instructions? o_O

Can you tell us when and how exactly this motor-search manifests itself?

    Hi Pieter,
I assure you, I have no problems following instructions. Just like Subratam told me to do, I downloaded hijackthis.zip to the "My Documents" folder and saved it in a folder called Hijack (still under "My Documents"). That is where I'm running the hijackthis.exe from, but when I post the log, it shows that it's in a temp file. Why?? I cleaned out my temp files and re-ran hijackthis.exe from the "My Documents/Hijack" folder.

This motor-search page even comes up if I disconnect my cable modem, open Internet Explorer, and type in www.yahoo.com, www. google.com, or www.altavista.com. It first started happening a few weeks ago. Here is the log from my latest hijackthis run:

OK. One mystery I can solve for you. You are running HijackThis directly from inside the zip file. Windows pretends it can handle that, but in reality it makes a copy in a Temp file to accomplish this.

Now the other one, since your log is clean now.
Please surf to http://www.billsway.com/vbspage/ and scroll down to
    Registry Search Tool
    Download, unzip and run RegSrch.vbs
Copy and paste this in the dialog box: motor-search

After a while a prompt will come up. Click OK to write the results to wordpad and post them.

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Hi captain,

Download the file I attached and save it as motoroff.reg
Doubleclick the file and confirm you want to merge it with the registry.

Am I correct that there are four other accounts on that computer and all are effected?

    Regards,

    Pieter

It worked!! Yes, you are correct that there are other users on the computer. Do I need to log on to each one and do the same thing? Thanks again for all your help. I really appreciate it.

    Kind regards,
    Captain

    Cool

I think I got rid of it for the other users as well., but hold on to the regfile we made, just in case.
You can use that for every account that gets bothered with this.

    Regards,

    Pieter
