Any news about integration of NOD32 with Thunderbird 5?

    Hi,

Most probably when we have a plugin compatible with Thunderbird 5, it will be automatically with TB 6 as well.

I was wrong, a separate plugin for TB 6 will be needed. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Based on the apparent new update regimen at Mozilla, with updates coming out about every month, I see little hope for Eset's being able to keep up with this. I can live without integration, myself.

There will eventually be an ESET plug-in released for Thunderbird version 6.0 but this plug-in will not be incorporated within ESET version 5.0

Why bother? Thunderbird 7 will probably be out by then. This just seems to me to be a fruitless effort. I can recall that back in the 2.x days that only Outlook and OE were fully supported e-mail clients in NOD32. Then, I used OE for a while, but switched to Eudora, which I had previously used in Win 3.11. Eudora was not fully supported, but that did not concern me and I was never infected in all the time I used Eudora. So, I am not sure how much value there is in having full integration of the e-mail client.

imo mozilla is making it harder for other devolopers to support their products with plugins and other intergration due to the rapid versioning. even in the old model i had quite alot of crashes and other issues so i can only think the new method will make mozilla products even more buggy.

    Hello,

The mails (POP3) are checked by NOD32 regardless of the mailer is the most important thing.

It does as long as you receive email via POP3/POP3S or IMAP/IMAPS (v5).

Emails (POP3) downloaded with Thunderbird 6 are checked by NOD32. There is no problem. It's what goes through port 110 that is checked, regardless of the mailer.

Before posting, I checked verification by NOD32. Everything is OK. NOD32 says on the email that the verification is made (if the setting request this notification.).

I find that the toolbar in Thunderbird is not very important.

    NOD32 V.4 checks the mail (POP3) with Thunderbird 6.

Don't forget that SSL or TLS is a cryptographic protocol, which is used to encrypt your mails to have a safe transfer from the server to your mailclient.

I believe the encrypted email can't be scanned correctly (this goes for any anti-virus).

    I have only pop3 accounts.

In the settings of NOD32, ask to write an indication if the check is done (infected or not infected email).

Each email scanned by ESET NOD32 Antivirus can be marked by appending a tag message to the email body.

So you can see for yourself if the check is done or not.

In all cases, verification is not influenced by the presence or absence of the NOD32 plugin in the mailer.

OK. You confirm what I had written a few hours ago.

But I think the absence of the plugin NOD32 does not affect the verification.

    ...

but disabling SSL/TLS does compromise the thunderbird - email provider safety connection !
