Default Firefox developers locate a source of bloat

Quote:
Firefox developers have been hunting down memory issues in Firefox and appear to have located a major one in the JavaScript engine. It appears, according to the bug report, that memory was fragmenting within the JavaScript engine due to it keeping 1MB chunks alive for long living system objects.

Still nothing compared to Chrome and Safari, but great nonetheless.

We've already discussed about a better version. Too bad the obese Safari is missing in both.

unfortunately I've moved on to "opera next' which loads up in 5 seconds compared to the 20 seconds it takes firefox to load. If they do fix the "bloat" I will probably move back to firefox, its a solid browser but it is slow.

What is "unfortunate" about your moving to Opera or anyone moving to any other browser?

It's unfortunate when you get used to a piece of software and then you see it decline in performance and you're forced to uninstall it and try out new software and get used to that new software.

I hated having to move from Firefox to Chrome.

@jonyjoe81: Did you have a clean profile, or was it full of add-ons?

@Hungry Man: I might've moved as well, if it wasn't for Firefox 4.

The sad fact is that the new findings of memory bloat will only make it into Firefox 7 - sigh!

I'm still using FF 3.6.18.

"Unfortunately", I get the impression that browsers improve over time.

"Unfortunately", I haven't learned to appreciate how relevant or useful comments about moving to other browsers are in a topic about a specific browser.

Than suck it up?

~Phrase removed~ lol if you're going to cry about a topic not going the direction you like you can always... post what you'd like to discuss.

edit: And your impression that browsers improve over time is kiiiinda the point -- they have highs and lows and people don't like waiting out the lows.

Thanks for the post Ron. Too bad we have to wait until version 7.
