Hi,
I don't know if you know it, but personally i have just heard of it this week. 7zip is a new compression format which beats by far existing ZIP and RAR compression methods. I have done a test with 57 files, 32.6MB : ZIP -> 10.7MB (max compression ratio) 7ZIP-> 3.59MB (max compression ratio) Compression ratio better by 66.5% (for these particular files). Official website: http://www.7-zip.org/ 7zip supports other common format like ZIP and RAR, and is FREE ![]() regards, gkweb.

I only came across 7-zip recently myself and that was after having used Google extensively to find a general purpose extractor. As such, threads like this are always welcome and I would commend GKWeb for sharing his experience.
For those interested, also consider ZipGenius (also free but not GPL) - it supports the 7-zip format but can also extract RAR and ACE archives (7-zip cannot extract ACE) which may make it more useful to those who download ACE files. |

Anything that does not support 7zip nowdays is outdated. Of course, the masses are still unaware of this.
IZarc is pretty good too. |
