I keep getting the following error message whenever I visit an .onion site: "504 Connect to (website name).onion:8181 failed: SOCKS error: host unreachable"

    1. My connection had been working earlier.
    2. I'm using XP via virtualbox on a Vista host machine
    3. I'm running the latest version of the tor bundle (which includes polipo, firefox w/ tor button, and tor) on xp.
    4. I've repeatedly reinstalled the tor bundle and shutdown xp to no avail.
    5. I can't find the answer on Google.
    6. I consider myself a noob and do not know what terms like "SOCKS" mean.
    7. The tor check page tells me I am successfully running Tor.

    Thanks for any assistance.

I've had the same problem with several other recently working sites.

Also, your links don't mention my error message and I have no idea what they are saying. Thanks though.

The 504 Gateway Timeout error is an HTTP status code that means that one server did not receive a timely response from another server that it was accessing while attempting to load the web page or fill another request by the browser.
This usually means that the other server is down or not working properly.

    Resolution
The 504 Gateway Timeout error is usually a network error between servers on the Internet or an issue with an actual server, meaning the problem is not with your PC orInternet connection.
