ClearCloud DNS To Be Discontinued

Wow, that's lame. What are alternatives, other than OpenDNS, Comodo, and Norton? If need be I would use Norton's.

 

I personally switched to Norton DNS...at least for now.

 

running this kind of free service probably cost a company a lot of money.

i always felt Symantec was in a better position to support this kind of DNS service with Norton DNS.

they're a big company with more revenues to absorb the cost of a service like this.

 

I didn't understand something. Is Vipre Premium's Web Filter the same as CC?

 

wow. thats really sad because it was a good product. I just switched to norton dns yesterday from clearcloud..because it seemed to slowing me down a little

Now, I need to decide which one, from those services that are still available, to add to my relative's systems.

I also need to change all my firewall rules...

Most likely it will be Norton DNS...

 

LOL the GFI purchase was the worst thing that ever happened to Sunbelt, all the good things being shut down.

At least now we know why it's been completely stale development wise. Switching to NortonDNS and not very happy about it.

Need more competitors joining this game please.

Look at the bright side... we still have ~ 3 months.

 

Which is great because I'll need that time to re-configure the amount of machines I've manually set to it. I won't go into it much, but there's many.

I'm swapping my network now.

 

2 Sunbelt/GFI products basically shut down around the same time. I don't know what they are trying to make me feel.

GFI is the worst thing that has happened to Sunbelt so far. They did not create anything new, but shut down existing products and services.

Do they seriously think Vipre is a replacement for ClearCloud? A DNS service cannot be compared to an AV product. It supports the entire network, all machines (not just Windows), and updates instantly.

Hopefully, they will be more reasonable after a massive protest.

 

They say that the http protection of vipre uses the same database than the DNS, so for the vipre user ClearCloud is useless.

This cost money and maybe they were not getting much income of vipre related with users of clearcloud

 

Somehow I think I would rather use Comodo DNS than Norton DNS, but I would like to know if Comodo focuses on blocking malicious sites or content like OpenDNS. I only want to block malicious sites, not inappropriate sites (not that I go to them).

 

I am honestly going to go back to my ISPs DNS service, I will miss the security advantage/speed advantage of ClearCloud but who knows how long each of the others will last.

 

Did I read that correctly? Theres a reason Comodo is barely mentioned in the DNS thread.

What are the qualitative differences?

What protection is lost by going to Norton vs. ClearCloud?

 

I have used clearcloud dns for 3 months till yesterday i had this feeling of slowdown.. Anyways according to my experience with clearcloud the detection rates were good also fast reply when submitted a FP site. Now I have not much I can choose from so have to go with norton dns but dont really like the fact they use ask as the search provider. anyone here using open dns? howz that?

Interesting as I had switched yesterday as well...for two reasons.

One was an "apparent" slowdown at times but the other, more important reason was that I was not connecting with a website I regularly do business with while using ClearCloud. I received no message from ClearCloud.

However, as soon as I changed to Norton DNS I immediately connected. (I checked the situation multiple times on two computers.)

It was mere coincidence that I came across the info I posted about the service terminating while checking the ClearCloud site for answers.

I happily used ClearCloud for months but have confidence that Norton DNS will offer very comparable protection (and better speed from what I've experienced thus far).
