i decided to test the top 4 browsers just for fun.
i used a stopwatch instead of benchmarks. statistics can be made to say anything you want, the stopwatch doesn't lie. i took the links to the 28 news article on the Google News page and hit them one by one. i stopped the stopwatch once the page was fully loaded (when the 'hourglass' stops). keep in mind i have a 'medium' internet speed (128 kbps). i was surprised that Chrome did not take the first spot. Results: IE9 : 6.72 seconds avg Chrome 11: 7.48 Firefox 4.1 : 9.22 Opera: i quit after 15 links since it was clear it was gonna place last with times very close to Firefox.

Chrome will take the top spot on JavaScript heavy sites. IE9 used to have the fastest with Chakra but I believe Chrome improved upon V8 since then to overtake it by a slight margin.

you're right.
maybe my test would have been a little more accurate if i had tested 50 or 100 sites instead of just 28 but there's only so many hours in a day. ![]()

I'd say it's more accurate if you measure the sites you visit, not a bunch of random sites. ![]()

I must agree. IE9 takes the first place IMO

there's only about 5 sites i visit daily on a regular basis, so i needed a larger pool. anyway, i guess the differences in speed for someone with a high speed pipe would be not really be as important.

What Chrome version? In 13.0.772.0 > about:flags there is a new option, "GPU Compositing on all pages". With this option enabled, it appears to me noticeably faster than before.
