Ursula7, one place to start is to read the signature at the bottom of people's posts to see what they are using, and then read up on each thing mentioned. Search here or on Google. Also you might want to read in the antivirus section here at Wilders, and check out reviews and ratings, such as at AV Comparitives or user ratings at MajorGeeks. For information on free programs check out Gizmo's http://www.techsupportalert.com/.

And take everything with a grain of salt until you get your bearings.
