    Avira will skip a version 11 this year, cant say I blame them, and in Quarter three start the beta for Version 12. From what I hear, a new cloud scanning will be incorporated, but, with a new twist.;)

    If they can used that to reduce their FP rate I'd be interested.

    Wow, that bird is speaking very much :)
    I like the adding of the Cloud whether it be reputation wise or something else, it is needed in Aviras products.

    I don't understand,why would Avira skip a version and jump straight to 12? It doesn't make sense to me.It's not as if they've ever stuck to the rigid yearly release cycle/naming scheme of some other vendorso_O

    Version 12..? The Avira guy on facebook said a new version will be launched in Q3 but he did not mention a version number.

    Editor's Note: Version 10 was effectively Avira's 2010 software release. In a recent email from Avira they mentioned that they won't be releasing a Version 11 this year, and will only be offering a minor Service Pack 2 update in Q2 of 2011. However, Avira does expect to release their 2012 version (version 12) in Q3 of 2011. So, due to some internal developments within the company, Avira has skipped Version 11 altogether.

    here is one of many places if you just goggle it. Do you really think I would post it if it wasnt accurate. Geez.

    Only the fact that it will have more cloud computing means nothing to me. It doesn't necessarily mean better protection/detection. Also I am very interested in what you mean with "a new twist". Next to that I assume that they will massively overhaul the user interface and the whole user experience to improve the usability.

    So a person should know better than to ask you where you got your information? It should simply be, trjam has spoken?

    I know better than to question Jeff about such things. He seems to have an inside track. He also has helped out a lot of members with discounted deals.

    This is not true for ESET products
    Other engine versions for Eset apply to other Business products. i.e ESET Mail Security 4.3.

    This is true, for example, for Kaspersky consumer products.

    Kaspersky 8 -> 2009
    Kaspersky 9 -> 2010
    Kaspersky 11 -> 2011

    ESET released version 4.0 in 2009
    ESET released version 4.2 in 2010

    Whats is new?

    Version 4.2 = Service Pack like avira = nothing new.

    No. I didnt say people could not ask and I posted a link to a public review of Avira and if you scroll down to the bottom you will see the Editors note.

    All we are talking about is a security product and some news about it. I really dont see the reason for the harshness in this thread. Maybe I am just to old to get it.

    So they will release Version 12 in 2012 how clever isn't that :)

    But I don't like that move, they should release new versions when they are ready and not skip version 11 just because they decide not to release a new version 2011 :thumbd:
