Default Firefox 5 in June

Quote:
The next version of Mozilla Firefox could be released in the last week of June, as the company moves to an accelerated release schedule.

According to a draft document, posted by Mozilla’s Rob Sayre and spotted by ConceivablyTech, a single Firefox release will take 16 weeks, a far cry from the twelve months it took the company to get Firefox 4 to release candidate stage. The final version of that browser is due for release March 22.

I think it's worth pointing out that nobody has actually confirmed this, except for a bunch of ifs and maybes.

Personally, I think this is just a typical example of Mozilla's PR strategy - leak and hint at highly, almost exaggeratedly optimistic plans to keep people excited, and push back release dates and/or cut back announced features later down the road.

I'll get excited about FF5 after I see FF4... if the last RC is the same as the final version... I'll stick to Chrome.

Who cares about release version numbers? Another hype.
Just because Chrome is at version 55 does not mean Firefox has to be, too.
Version 4 or 40, what difference could it possibly make?

Well, IMHO it makes a huge difference to all of the users out there judging by version no, i.e. the bigger the no, the better the software. Sadly common POV I'm afraid...

A stable preview may be availble as soon as April.

Mozilla is following through with its accelerated release plan for Firefox. One of our eagle-eyed readers already noted before that the recently posted Firefox 4.2a1pre is not the already announced 4.0.x update, but represents the foundation of Firefox 5.0. Apparently, time constraints have forced Mozilla to use the version number 4.2a1pre and prevented the company from using “5.0a1pre”. Mozilla now refers to its new release plan officially as “Rapid Release“.

If you are specific about which extensions are not working for you, others maybe able to offer some suggestions.
