I'm now giving this a test and had a question.
How often are folks using it here taking snapshots? Thanks, |

Hey slider,
Everyone uses their PC differently, so when and how often to take snapshots is a personal thing. However, it's very important to understand that while creating/restoring RB snapshots are convenient and quick, they are not intended to take the place of an image-backup! Fwiw, I run daily scheduled RB snapshots and (in addition) I take a manual snapshot before installing or updating anything. Every week I create a 'WinPE-Raw' backup image of my system partition (containing all of my RB snapshots). I then update the RB baseline and start-over (so to speak). Aaron

As Aaron said each user must decide for him or herself. I have Rx take a snap each hour and a locked snap at boot. Like Aaron if I am installing a program or opening an e-mail I am uncertain of I will take a manual snap before doing so. At the end of each day I upload my critical data files to an on-line storage site and then delete all unlocked snaps (the hourly ones). I keep 5 days worth of boot snaps and weekly image the drive and keep the images off site.

I use CTM as opposed to Rb. Like everyone has replied, before the installation of new software, some software updates and definitely before MS patch Tuesday updates. I take one or two snapshots/day. I was every morning and then again at night. Lately just at night. Despite the ability to name and describe the snapshot, I delete and defrag (with CTM) as I go, i.e. I only keep two old snapshots. The reason is, if the PC was working fine this morning or last night, why would I want to go back further than that and "lose" everything in between, e.g. files and anti-malware updates. Plus I wouldn't recall everything I might have saved, installed, etc. from a week ago. The only exception to this would be the MS updates, as the issues with them don't always arise immediately, especially if there is some incompatibility with an application that you don't use daily, so you won't realize it immediately. Hope this helps!

I take snapshots once a day and if everything is ok, I delete the old snapshots after a week

I take a snapshot everyday on first boot and prior to major changes such as settings, installation/uninstallation of programs, updates, etc.

I do two per day automatically and one manually prior to any program installs. I also do a weekly full image and daily differentials with Macrium.
