Default Why/how can anti-virus CDs from reputable Co.s be sold so low on ebay?

Top-Rated Sellers are usually legit.

Mostly as they are OEM editions which, strictly speaking, you're not supposed to sell as a standalone product - they are meant to ship with a PC.

Always be wary of "downloadable" versions on eBay. Nearly always created by a keygen.

There are certain situations where some discs are pirated versions. They create a batch of discs and simply print a keygen-created code on a piece of paper. Watch out for those.

Generally speaking, if there's anything you do not want to take a risk with, it's your security software!

There are many boxed unused copies on ebay. That is where I get 90% of mine. I have had to get my money back on a couple, but when you use PayPal you are able to get a refund.

I have gotten a couple where the seller got a bargain from some store such as Best Buy, got the rebate, and is selling it on ebay.
There are tons of Norton and Kaspersky on ebay. Get it from a highly rated seller, and you will likely be OK. If you pay with Pay Pal it is a sure thing that you will not lose your money.

Avast never seems to show up legit, and Avira is too high.

I have three years worth of Norton CDs and one of Avira.

Regards,
Jerry

Thank you for the replies. I've been "running free" (except for Sandboxie) since I dropped NOD32 a few years ago and have never even come close to an infection. However, having said that, the success Norton has dealing with the MRG tests and at AV-Comparatives and the price(s) on ebay have me tempted!

Alot of the time there are international resellers. Software prices can vary from country to country. What you buy in china or europe might be cheaper somewhere else.

As mentioned the legit ones are:
UPC removed for rebate
or
weird one time bargains swooped up at a local store.

I just missed getting KIS 2010 3 user boxed for $9.99 at the local Target.
Clearing them out for KIS 2011.
