No it hasn't. IE 9

 

I'll only be able to pronounce about it, in what concerns me and relatives , once I get to test the final version - default settings - against URLs hosting exploits. I'll then see what it has to offer and decide if I move some of the relatives back to IE(9). Otherwise, they'll stick with Chromium.

 

I am using RC. Should I uninstall RC or install final over RC?

 

There was a Windows Update for Beta > RC. You can bet there will be one for RC > Final.

 

Did they beat Firefox 4's release date?

 

It doesn't have one yet, it just hit RC. So I guess the answer is yes.

The first ones that gets out gains an early competitive advantage with possible increased market share.

 

I really don't think you'll see to many switching from Chrome or Firefox back to IE, although some will of course as it is a good browser.

What Mircosoft wants is to get those still running IE6 and, to a lesser extent, those who left IE recently to make the switch.

I don't think its any coincidence that they launched that "IE6 Death Watch" site days before the final of IE9.

 

Those running IE6 are all on XP (or earlier), and IE9 won't be available to XP, so I don't think your point is valid here...

 

Once people find out the IE8 doesnt support the lastest standards and they cant upgrade to 9 on xp they will simply switch to another browser. so microsoft really shot themselfs in the foot.

Probably, but I tend to agree with 'lodore' a lot will just switch to Firefox or Chrome. After all, it is a much cheaper alternative & many people still actually prefer XP. Switching to Seven may not be an option for people who run computers that have less than a Gbyte of RAM.

 

i'm looking forward for the official release.
i tried the Beta a couple of months and although it was rough, it looked promising.

i been using Chrome for a couple of years and before that it was Firefox for awhile.
i uninstalled Chrome and been running IE8 for a few days to get warmed up.

But yeah, XP is a good OS, I still like it, we use it at work. Some of the websites we need to use at work are only compatible with IE7 & IE8 so we're stuck with IE8 for now.

 

True, this could happen and probably will. I think MS doesn't much care though, if anything, they're attempting to get people to move on to Win 7 whenever possible. Taking IE9 away from XP won't really make people buy a new OS, it's just a further withdrawal of support from a dying XP. Eventually, just about everyone will buy a new PC, and get a new OS as well, with IE9 or whatever comes with it at the time....
