I currently use windows XP sp3 and ESET SS.
A friend told me that either a Linux operating system or Macs OSX without antivirus software is safer than my setup. Is this true?

Hi there.
Well, the short and simple answer is NO. But in the end, it's all about what Software you install, wich websites you visit. And also keeping your OS, and software up to date. FYI, I am also using XP SP3 and Eset Smart Security. Edit: and software up to date

Very interesting reply - thank you. I wonder what should be the next step in my research. There are so many who think that Linux/Unix systems are always better than Windows. I understand that most machines run windows so must viruses in general will attack Windows computers and I also know that ESET can't catch all viruses and can't catch them within minutes so there will always be a window of time with danger after viruses are released. I wonder if using a Mac with Eset would be the safest way to go. I have an online website store so security is important to me.
