I've just read something about Avira free that seems troubling. On Softpedia, it says the anti-rootkit component only works on 32-bit systems? Can anyone confirm this? I would need to change the chart to tell this.

    http://www.softpedia.com/get/Antivirus/AntiVir-Personal-Edition.shtml

"Rootkit protection for detecting hidden malware installed in your computer system (rootkits) (Only for 32-bit systems)"

Their description seems to be out-dated, on the same softpedia page, there is a changelog for 10.0.0.561(no changelog for .609 so that seems to be out-dated too :p), in this changelog the mention it now works on 64 bit too:
"Rootkit detection now available for 64 bit systems:
    · The detection of rootkit which was up to now only available for 32 bit systems is now also available for 64 bit systems."

This may be a bit off-topic but since this thread is discussing free antiviruses, I figured it'd be better than starting a new thread.

Is there an independent AV tester like AV-comparatives that just tests the free versions of products? I'd like to see something more reputable than YouTube tests that compare the free products. As a side not I did notice Avast! is having it's free version participate in the comparatives, and I applaud them for that. :thumb:

You cannot compare that sandbox to the sandbox of Comodo. It is different in every single aspect.

As it is written, the notifier shows a pop-up only for exclusive offer or something really important. No more daily update pop-up. ;)

    Great chart --thanks.

You will need to update it now that Avast 6 is out.

If this is strictly about free versions, you need to remove USB protection and behavior analysis from Panda. Those are only in the Pro version.

I believe the free has those features in a more limited way. I'm sure I read that somewhere, perhaps in one of Ibrad's posts but I'm not sure.

I'm just going by their page here http://www.cloudantivirus.com/en/download/cloud-antivirus/free. Maybe they do, I don't know for certain.

Just seen this. PCAV Free does have behaviour analysis; it's just that the Pro version has additional analysis of running processes. Pedro also said earlier:
That second engine will most likely relate to the running processes analysis.
