MozyOnline backup

I'm wondering how many (If any) have or are using this program? i stumbled across it via one of those TrialPay offers,and wondering if its a good/bad thing. All I can say from personal experience is that it took 14 mins to backup less that 1MB of photo's, If I was to backup my whole photo Album, 6GB it might take till doomsday, and its not like i have a slow connection 30Mbps

I used it previously to backup all my school stuff and I can confirm that it takes a lot of time for it to scan through all your files - but after that it is actually pretty fast when you are adding new smaller files.

Also, you can in settings change if you want your computer to be faster (it takes less resources and takes more time) or opposite.

I just went through a bunch of reviews and seeing which online backup fit my needs the best. It finally came down to Mozy, SugarSync, IDrive, SpiderOak and TrendMicro's SafeSync (Humyo). I finally went with the TrendMicro version because it is on sale and offers unlimited backup storage for home users. FWIW- I also looked at IDrive which had a special of people signing up for their free service and get a $10 gift card from iTunes as a bonus. Well once this was on slickdeals.net lots of people were installing, uploading and making comments. One caveat of the $10 gift card was that 1 GB of data had to be uploaded by the customer. Several customers on slickdeals were saying how many hours it took for them to upload 1 GB and- most were talking 6-9 hours or more.

Mozy is REALLY slow to download files. I have tried spider oak and dropbox and both are much faster for file access but neither are as easy as Mozy.

When I did heavy researching 6 months ago CrashPlan won, by a bit even. http://b2.crashplan.com/consumer/crashplan.html Not exactly free to use if you go + or pro version but "feature rich" is the term to use. Also very well documented on their site, could also mean program needs you to put reading glasses on for 15 min.

Only problem I have had is with locked/in use files (Crashplan of course also back those up). Means it make use of VSS service and sometimes it work, sometimes not. Event viewer show errors referring to VSS and files are not backed up. I have not yet updated to new version 3 - I expect this much reported problem to be fixed.

New 3 feature of being able to use SEVERAL backup sets make a big difference because Crashplan can back up in more than 1 way. Pretty much useless before, now very smart.

If ready to pay up for truly unlimited online backup add "Crashplan" to your research. I said truly because on their forum I have read that some have found X service eventually will start to complain if you upload too much. Crashplan will brag about them not having such hidden term (hence the price perhaps). Anyway worthy of investigation.

When I Googled Skydrive MS shows me I get 25 G's free.
I follow your link and MS tells me I get 5 G's free synced files.
Is the discrepancy the syncing?

Yes and there is file size limit of 50mb I think - not sure if that also goes for Mesh, definitely for Skydrive. They have not much to do with online backup services like Mozy, Crashplan.

I believe there is no 50 MB limit in Mesh but there were some restriction of being able to open files online.

I use all 3 - Mozy, Dropbox and Mesh. Its a simple way to keep your most important files backed up and accessible thru any web browser.
