Heh, yeh same here. If you go to Edit- Preferences- Performance- Mem Usage, you can set 10% as mem usage limit. Still more than Foxit, but system-wise it still feels ok.

Yes, memory usage is very high, and it increases when documents are scrolled. I got 850 MB peak with 3 documents (3, 106 and 53 pages) opened, it later decreased to 570 MB.

Is this a new wrinkle? I installed PDFxchange because Adobe was a hog.

I'll stick to the Foxit executable download, no added extras.

Resource usage = Known Issue according to Tracker Support. Fix should be available within the next 10-14 days (again, per Support). FWIW....

There's 2.5.189 (stable) on their download page. Haven't seen what's on the changelog yet.

Abt an hour ago I downloaded & installed x64 version but turned out it was still .188.

If you set 10% mem usage limit, it may still be high but maybe you won't feel it if you don't look at task manager. heeee

Wow, but that should be using default setting "Automatic"? Have you already tried with 10% limit setting?

okay set it to 10% opened a 24 page TEXT pdf no pics at all... uses 97mb after scrolling all the way down. foxit uses 17 for this same file. i lode pdfxchange and it renders MUCH better than foxit but its ram usage is simply insane. the newest adobe does not even use this much!!!!

yeah if u have 4gb ram, it may use up to 400mb (easily!). That's really alot, but I wouldn't know it unless I looked at task manager.

Are you guys using a paid version of pdfxchange or something? My latest free version is v2. build 057 and the memory use is 70Mb.

Pretty sure it has nothing to do with free or paid; the new build (builds actually) that were released over the last several days appear to present this issue.

Viewer builds: 2.5.188 and 2.5.189

Try setting it to 1% then. Just type in a "1", click "Apply" and then "OK". It works!

Just learned a little while ago that the reason for the high memory usage is caching. However, minimizing the Viewer, or just letting it sit idle for a few minutes, results in the release of all of that cached memory.

Regardless, you can set memory usage in "Performance" to anything you desire (including as low as 1% of available RAM, as I suggested above).

Yeah....no need --probably -- *unless* any of the following fixes/features are of any interest to you, which are applicable to build 188:

*Resolved possible crash with drawing tools during switching between tools via shortcut.

*Resolved issue when toggling toolbars by 'F11' when some documents are opened.

*Resolved issue with text selection (added workarounds for some incorrect font-info in some documents).

*Resolved issue when changing current view for page thumbnails pane or by "Pan&Zoom" when document contains rotated pages.

*Resolved issue with fast switching using "Ctrl+Tab" between documents.

*Resolved issue when exporting PDF to one multipaged GIF.

*Resolved issue with number of print copies.

*Resolved issue with duplex option, value of this option is now inherited from the selected printer.

*Resolved issue when importing/exporting callout annotations from/to xfdf.

*Resolved issue when copying bookmarks with a Launch action.

*Resolved issue (rare) possible when saving wrong appearance for text widgets.

*Resolved issues with installing help file via LiveUpdate.

*Improved User Interface appearance.

*Added feature for customization of User Interface appearance.

*Added/Extended Comprehensive support for XFA and Dynamic form Types.

*Added option to open/close popups annotations for groups via context menu in Comments list.

yes it does work but setting it to say 2% on this 2gb system makes it render pages very slowly and its pretty choppy it also must re render them as you scroll back up again

FWIW... I still had a PC with version 2.0.54 on it (with Performance set to Automatic) so I checked it and it used a larger than expected amount of memory too. So IMO, I don't feel that this is a totally new problem. But even with the memory issue, I can't remember ever crashing a PC on PDF-XChange. And we switched to it in our office almost 2 years ago.

I will say that now that I know I can limit the amout of RAM it uses, I plan to do so as part of my typical setup parameters. Thanks for passing along that info!
