Default seems like someone is trying to cut off wikileaks entirely

first the data hoster

http://aws.amazon.com/message/65348/
Quote:
There have been reports that a government inquiry prompted us not to serve WikiLeaks any longer. That is inaccurate.

then the dns hoster

http://twitter.com/#!/wikileaks/status/10567274838622208

and also the visualization hoster

http://www.tableausoftware.com/blog/...visualizations
Quote:
Our decision to remove the data from our servers came in response to a public request by Senator Joe Lieberman, who chairs the Senate Homeland Security Committee, when he called for organizations hosting WikiLeaks to terminate their relationship with the website.

looks like they are moving to Switzerland now

http://twitter.com/#!/wikileaks/status/10621623082156033

http://213.251.145.96/

wondering how long that is going to last...

They will do anything to hide the truth about their own criminality...hound the guy and accuse him of sex crimes etc. Long live wikileaks!

I think there should be a distinction between the org and the person. sure thing that the accusations strangely coinciding with the struggle to keep the org from leaking documents, however there is not much insight about the accusations and the guy is a human being in the end of the day.

although there is a chance of things being related would prefer not to mix in this thread the personal matter and to stay on topic

Yeah, like we believe that! Why not accuse him of the Lindbergh kidnapping as well while they're at it.

The problem with this material being disclosed is that too many people
get hurt. I don't care about the politicians whose doings are disclosed,
I care about the people that are "behind the lines" feeding information
to friendly governments and whose life's are endangered by irresponsible
individuals. This Wikileaks guy is a modern "useful fool".

There are bits of information surfacing that Eric Besson, French Industrial Minister, is currently exploring ways to ban wikileaks from french hosting servers. reason is a copy of wikileaks currently placed with french OVH. that in the land of Liberty, Equality, Fraternity

Not mentioned before in this thread, but Wikileaks.nl has also been available for some time now.

There are some idea's for decentralized DNS via P2P, but I'm curious about security implications, it would seem easy to do things like DNS poisoning.

wikileaks.de is as well. however there seems currently the dynamic of a steam roller going on, trying to bring the platform to its knees. the german domain is registered since 2006 by a German citizen on behalf of wikileaks, it just remains to be seen whether it is feasible to dodge the applied pressure - as there obviously is.

most people would not care supporting a whistle-blower platform, e.g. boycotting amazon, everydns, tableusoftware and paypal, as it would cause discomfort their end.

Looks like paypal has now cut off wikileaks, so they can no longer receive donations. At least not via paypal.

Quote:
The company said in a blog posting the move was prompted by a violation of its policy, "which states that our payment service cannot be used for any activities that encourage, promote, facilitate or instruct others to engage in illegal activity."

Edit:
Sorry, I see above it was already posted.

That Joe Lieberman is abusing his position as Homeland Security Chairman to thuggishly dictate to private companies which websites they should and should not host -- and, more important, what you can and cannot read on the Internet -- is one of the most pernicious acts by a U.S. Senator in quite some time.
Got that right.

Quote:
Kevin Rudd, the Australian foreign minister, condemned the release of confidential US diplomatic cables by WikiLeaks and confirmed that Australian Federal Police are investigating the matter.

The founder of the whistle-blowing website WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, 39, is an Australian citizen.

A breach of security on the scale of the latest leak makes it “harder to deal with intractable problems” facing the international community, Mr Rudd, who was in Dubai on a trip to the region, said.

“Our attitude, like most governments, is one of absolute condemnation – the reason being, diplomacy exists for a purpose,” he said. “It’s not just an idle chat on a Saturday afternoon. Diplomacy exists for the purpose of conducting the confidential business of states – one state to another.

“There are certain problems which can only be dealt with, eliminated or reduced per medium of private conversations. That’s why it’s been around for centuries.”

On Monday, Robert McClelland, the Australian attorney general, said he would instruct the Australian Federal Police to investigate whether any Australian laws had been broken by WikiLeaks.

“The Australian government, like other governments, is looking at full recourse to its legal jurisdiction, in terms of whether any of these actions have breached the Australian criminal law as well,” Mr Rudd said. There has been speculation that Mr Assange, who is believed to be in London, may have his passport confiscated upon his return to Australia. Mr Rudd, however, stressed that any such decision could be taken only “on the basis of the advice of the federal police and the Australian customs authorities”.

heh: not quite yet ...I hope..
down here we've been inundated with the usual pollie hyperbole:
http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/...mage-australia
Do ya think they forget who they're actually working for ..effwits..

Quote:
Australian Lawyers for Human Rights president Stephen Keim says accusations of criminal law breaches levelled at WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange undermine free speech principles.

"Although the Attorney-General is entitled to disagree with - even protest - the actions taken, it is a particularly objectionable misuse of political hyperbole in these circumstances to make sweeping allegations of illegality," Mr Keim said in a statement on Sunday.

"It involves a degree of intimidation that is likely to (and appears intended to) deter others from engaging in serious political debate on the possibility that it may offend those who hold the machinery of power."
There's a little more there..
We're watching.
