    Hello all,
I'm pleased to announce that Prevx is now in Fry's Electronics stores in the US and will soon be in a number of other "brick-and-mortar" stores as well. Check your local store for pricing!

Awesome! Did this happen because your were acquired by Webroot(since they seem to have good distribution) or was this already being planned before the acquisition?

I notice that Prevx Cloud Anti-Malware 3.0 - 3 User is selling in the US on Fry's website for 49.99 USD, which at today's rate of exchange is around £31 GBP.

On the Prevx website, the equivalent Prevx 3.0 Cleanup and Protection - 3 User is advertised here in the UK at £43.35 GBP. Given that Prevx is a UK based company, is this yet another example of British customers getting a raw deal when compared with US prices?

Even allowing for VAT at 19% the pre-tax price is £36.43, which is still higher.

Prevx 3.0 Cloud Security includes SafeOnline and Prevx 3.0 Cloud Anti-Malware does not! ;)

It's more down to stores wanting to be able to give a deal to their end users. It's less expensive from Fry's than it is on our website for US users as well (although I still had to pay for it when getting it from the store :D).

Selling software in a store is significantly different than selling it online (costs for getting it on the shelf, costs for the packaging, etc.) but it is useful to be able to reach a wider audience and people do tend to like having a physical item in their hands.

The plans for this have been in motion since before the Webroot deal became public but we'll be able to leverage their existing relationships to get our software in a wider number of areas :)

FWIW- that may be the first boxed Avira I have seen as well. I wonder if Prevx will engage in other types of marketing for the boxed version- i.e. FAR?

The overheads involved in selling a physical commodity via a bricks and mortar operation are the reasons why selling software online where only a download from a website is involved should be cheaper, not dearer IMO.

That is indeed true, but when trying to appeal to a non-technical user standing infront of an array of boxes, discounts are basically a requirement. Software companies end up profiting far less from boxed products but it reaches a different audience that wants to have cardboard in their hands :)

In that case, is there any intention to sell boxed copies of Prevx in the UK, so that UK customers can enjoy discounts similar to those being offered in the US?

I'd suspect there is - I'm not involved with that side of the sales process but I'd be surprised if we weren't actively working to get on the shelves in the UK as well :)
