Dedoimedo is supposedly downsizing. No, not really. I felt like it, so I bought a netbook. This is a combined review of Asus eeePC Seashell series (red) netbook and Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.04 Lucid Lynx, including hardware specs, peripherals, performance, suspend & resume, hotkeys, battery life, desktop look and feel, Flash, video, programs, and more. Why didn't you go with Netbook Remix 10.10? Just curious.

I've been thinking of getting me one of those netbooks, as well. Light weight, compact...perfect for just surfing. Leave the intensive stuff (converting mkvs to avi or DVD structures for example...Devede is great) to my Desktops.

That's really nice, I just bought an Asus 1201N which has an atom 330N chip, which was built for desktop machines (although low power web servers rather than conventional desktops).

I think I should have waited, the 450N chip gives 10+ hours of juice!!!

Not sure about the Pink though, could be a good machine to do a hackintosh job on.

I read your review and realized you must have bought your netbook before UNR 10.10 was released (October 10th 2010). I had assumed you bought it just recently...which prompted my question.

BTW, do you miss not having a CD/DVD drive in your netbook? About the only drawback to them that I can see.

EeePC user here as well.

I am using Pinguy OS which is a modified 10.10 install.
Buying the 1000HE has paid off in spades, as I have had zero problems with it other than removing fingerprints off it.

I'd like to be able to disable the camera and internal mic automatically in Linux. Juniper and eeecontrol don't save the settings.

If Mrk's experience with UNR 10.10 the same as mine, it won't be a favorable review. I wish I had thought of UNR 10.04 but I am happy with the 10.10 desktop I am using now.

To me it is really not ready for the netbook and has a long ways to go before becoming a desktop. The Ubuntu team was got some work ahead of them.

I tried 10.04 NBR on my Wife's MSI netbook and found it clunky. From the brief reviews I have read of 10.10 NBR is good in concept but has an unfinished feel.

Fuduntu is a Fedora 14 remix (remaster) designed especially for Asus Eee...

You mentioned that your new netbook had a standard Intel chipset. What video and wireless card are in it? UNR doesn't use compiz...have you tried a standard Ubuntu install to see how compiz performed? Any trouble connecting via wireless? I'm on the verge of buying a ASUS 1005HAB from an associate of my wife's at our local university. That's why I'm asking.

Anyone who has an ASUS 1005HAB or PEB please chime in.

Didn't try the standard install or compiz - not the purpose of this machine!
