No one is saying that bolehvpn isn't good...no one. BUT there is certainly room for more than one vpn provider. I wonder who works for boleh on this thread

If you read the entire post I made you'll see I mention some other VPNs that are good too...

There are a few great VPNs out there, but I'll STRESS the word FEW, because in all the years I've been doing this that's about all I've found and that is based on technical reasons that are supported by OpenVPN which is stated in this post, beyond that most of them out there are crap!

Reuben is the only one nicknamed by his company as 'BolehVPN' on this forum that I'm aware of that works for BolehVPN, they only have a few staff members and he's the only one that visits this forum...

Perfect Privacy is expensive, 150 €/year, but very good. Police captured one of their servers in Berlin, but found nothing.

OVpn.to is 90 €/year, you get a IP from Russia or Ukraine.

I had bought a Cyberghost VPN subscription some time ago. But I went back just to have a look at the payment process again. Before being directed to the payment page, the following is declared:

Please be aware to use valid personal data, otherwise the automatic validation process may reject your payment.

Important note: The personal data given will NEVER compromise your anonymity while using the Internet with CyberGhost.

The payment is processed by cleverbridge.com, a Germany-based, online reseller for Cyberghost VPN.

Once done, I got a regular receipt (details therein included: my name and address, the reference number, and the invoice number - all identifiable info). The description in my credit card, however, simply stated "www.cleverbridge.net" as the vendor. No mention of CGVPN or the product.

Still, I emailed their customer support and he replied saying that the payment details are not connected to the usage data (which is encrypted). This is also reiterated on their forum.

Under account management, you have the option to auto-delete the usage stats at the end of each billing month or keep it for 3 months (in case there are any billing disputes that need to be settled).

Two curious things / quibbles?? about the service:
1. You cannot change the email address you signed up with. That option is simply not there as the email ID is encrypted and not visible or retrievable. It can only be used to reset your password, should you forget it.

2. They are based out of Romania (earlier they were in Germany) and I do wonder what influence the US has when it comes to Romania, a country that was their partner/ally in the renditions program.

Just to clarify, I have left it to Raymond.cc to decide how he wishes to conduct the competition. I believe the reason of the phone verification is to ensure that they are genuine people and not double entries. I understand the privacy concerns but am not receiving this info from Raymond but merely the e-mails of the winning users.

Hey arubarocks, one of your concerns is certainly a valid one and it's something we're working on improving. This guy on the Linux forums, just for full honesty, he was an old customer of ours (at least if I remember correctly), and recently fell on hard times (or maybe I'm confusing him with someone else). He asked me if he could take over the Linux forum support since he was very familiar with it and in exchange I could give him free access to a BolehVPN account.

I should have thought it through a bit more but told him ok, but you're not to represent you're from BolehVPN and my staff will keep an eye out of support queries as well but for a while he was doing a good job and my support staff grew lax at monitoring it. I saw some massive replies and figured ah must be being dealt with without realizing that aruba's issue was not resolved yet. For your info, aruba doesn't have any sort of admin access to any of our details or even moderation privileges (I think we may have given him privileges to sticky stuff in the Linux thread).

So this is something definitely we could have worked better on.

Also just to clarify, we don't have any servers in France and I don't think we've had those for a very long time. We have servers in UK, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Netherlands, US and Canada. We tried Romania for a while but it didn't work out due to less than ideal speeds. We also tried Russia which was unreliable as well. It's a bit hard to find a mixture of p2p friendly hosts, high bandwidth transfers and decent responsiveness. We chose to have consistent performance as opposed to having tremendous variety that would lead to users complaining about slow speeds on certain servers. Unlike other VPN providers, we offer access to all our VPN servers in one package with no restriction on switching.

So if you're going to get a VPN service and privacy is goal number #1, what country do you think is the best to get a VPN service through?

So far I have my eyes on these companies;

https://www.goldenfrog.com/ USA -
http://www.hidemyass.com/vpn/ UK -

Here's a couple of other services I remembered of in the past and forgot to include;

UltraVPN
https://www.ultravpn.fr/

Its Hidden
http://itshidden.com/index.php?optio...id=48&Itemid=1

* Goldenfrog is VyprVPN. Bad TOS.

* UltraVPN: It seems this vpn doesn't no more exist. Generally, a free vpn service with a ".fr" extension has a short life expectation.

* HideMyAss would better be named "ExposeMyHass". I think US/UK VPN provider with servers in US/UK have to be avoided (except, maybe, to watch on Netflix or Hulu outside US).

* ItsHidden: They have a very interesting TOS:
Quote:
You hereby indemnify us and undertake to keep us indemnified against any losses, damages, costs, liabilities and expenses (including without limitation legal expenses and any amounts paid by us to a third party in settlement of a claim or dispute on the advice of our legal advisers) incurred or suffered by us arising out of any breach by you of any provision of these terms and conditions[, or arising out of any claim that you have breached any provision of these terms and conditions].

So, the best and simplest way to become a millionaire is to be a billionaire before using ItsHidden.

You can't know unless you go to work for all of them. Based on the experience of this board, 3 always seem to be at the top, and no one (IIRC) has aver said "No Way":

Bohle
Air
Mullvad.

Other's mentioned, but I don't recall any actual paying customers (could be wrong), are Insorg, and Portlane.

Proof of going to court to protect users was posted about Riseup!, but you have to be invited.

But if you've read this entire thread, there should be enough info to make a decision.

Edit: Forgot CryptoHippie

Thanks. It was mostly from memory, but I did confirm stuff

By the way, "Mult" is the number of simultaneous connections allowed, and "Ports" refers to port forwarding through the VPN.

Maybe someone could add columns about exit IPs, such as number and number of countries.

I'll put this in a Google Docs spreadsheet. We could log ratings and speed reports.

Perfect Privacy - no logs - exspensive, servers are blacklisted by everyone as proxies and full of malware according to malwarebytes.
Mullvard - Small but good VPN. You get what you pay for. + take bitcoin
iVPN - One of the top 3, good speeds, double hops but limited servers only 4
VPN4ALL - Lots of servers, huge amount of ip's & no logs but traffic analysis & LOTS of MITM attacks
insorg - could hardly connect, tripple vpn was useless much less single.
Anoine - couldn't connect
IPpredator - OK nothing special
ACEvpn - OK 25% of the servers didnt connect. Moderate their own forum heavily.

This looks great, I am sure you already know this, but AIR supports DD-WRT so in actuality, all systems on that sub-net would be able to use the service. I've been impressed, that even the Sweden server is relatively responsive from the US.

Any of them will work in DD-WRT, I think. At least, they all work in pfSense.

Thank you for that list. I definitely was told to stay away from hidemyass as they keep some type of information for 30 days.

Can you use uTorrent on most VPNs?

Thanks for the feedback. I'll add the others that you've mentioned.

There are many such comments in this and other threads. But I don't have time or patience to collect them. Also, anonymous polling about defined parameters would be more accurate, and easier to summarize and interpret. Although I like Wilders polls, because they're limited to members and prevent double voting, they seem too "one-dimensional" for this.

Here are some parameters. Please criticize, supplement, etc.

claimed number of exit servers
claimed number of exit countries
number of usable exit servers
number of usable exit countries
frequency of exit server blacklisting
speed
reliability
confirmed report of providing information to third parties
support responsiveness

By the way, I haven't included privacy policies, claims about not logging, etc because they can't be verified, and so may be misleading.

Kaspersky rootkiller picked up a trojan/rootkit in VPN4ALL install folder. Not sure if it was a false positive also picked up DNScrypt as a rootkit :/

So there are only two responses to the poll about favorite VPNs.

If you use VPNs, and haven't responded, why is that?

Are you worried that it's not anonymous enough? Wilders already knows, by the way, which exit VPN you're using

For the more paranoid, by the way, Wilders doesn't update "last post by" for polls if you just vote, but don't add a reply.

There are six replies now. Maybe I'd missed some when I last posted. Thanks, all
