Neither am I, I suppose it depends which mirror you're getting it from. I'm at least eight thousand kilometres from California, so it has longer to travel.

Downloaded and installed latest version manually. It removed previous version automatically before installing new version.

I just reinstalled after not having used it for several months. I see we are back to rebooting for removing cookies? I thought we were past this.

That's interesting, I haven't had to do that for a while even after a full scan, although it's been a couple of months since I last did that. Maybe it depends on how many cookies are found?

BTW I still have # 5.0.1144 & am still waiting for an update.

I have 5.0.1146 downloaded form their website today. There were only 15 cookies. I hadn't rebooted after installing SAS though, maybe that comes into play.

Yes, the non-rebooting after installation could be it. I suppose I'll get the upgrade eventually.

just downloaded 5.0.1146 it is the latest and greatest as far as I can tell.

SAS is the only scanner that ever found anything bad on my pc. So I am a bit loyal to it. I use it as a on demand scanner behind Nod32 V5 my on line or real time product.

But I'll run SAS once a week to see so now I have this update I'll do it now!

More later

Yes, regardless of its varying fortunes I still have faith in it. It once found malware for me when nothing else could. I use it regularly as an on-demand scanner.

Mine apparently auto-updated while I wasn't looking.

I ran it, and it removed some tracking cookies. I didn't have to reboot to clean them. xxJackxx, could some of your cookies have been flash cookies?

Well yes it is good.

I'm just thinking that there is NO scanner anywhere no matter what the vendors claim that can find ALL possible malware, virus etc.

So I scan with Nod32 V5 and lets say it finds 90% of known baddies. Same for SAS lets assume. Some of their signatures will be duplicates of course but some will not thus lets say I'm up to 99%. I may have 1 trojan on on my setup.

So I do use other tools like OP FW Pro with it's HIPS and KeyScrambler, EMET and roboform to work as well. As well I have image backup and my data partition is separate from the c drive where all the executables live.
My risk profile is low very low.

Some say that once per year we should all purge our systems down to the metal and reinstall everything, data and applications wise. I don't have a problem with that other than the work load.

Very good point and spot-on of course Escalader

It's a no-brainer that no single security scanner app of any type no matter how well integrated it's Suite is, can claim anywhere near full detections.

The same goes for Registry Cleaners...................

I ran it again yesterday and it prompted to reboot again. Maybe there were flash cookies (not sure) but if BetterPrivacy can remove them without a reboot...

It would be interesting to check if it has in fact removed them before rebooting and is asking for the reboot only because that is hardwired after any kind of detection/removal?

I tend to agree with this statement, however there is an other angle to it, if I find one single piece of malware(cookies don't qualify) it means my security strategy is flawed, my system has been pristine for many years mainly because I use a kind of hybrid system based on fairly frequent imaging, sandboxing, and virtualization.

If a scanner finds something real (there's always a chance it is an FP) it is certainly a positive action, but also a definite sign that one's security strategy doesn't work.

In over three years of using the freeware version of SAS I have never seen a nag screen imploring me to purchase the vendor version. I wasn't even running SAS at the time but working on some documents.

Until now!

I do hope this is not going to be a regular thing from now on. I was doing some paperwork for work! I don't need to be reminded to upgrade to vendor thank you very much SAS.

I have a feeling we may be parting our ways if this happens too much.

yes it seems as though the SAS portable download link does not provide the portable version of SAS, instead it just downloads the normal free version installer but with a randomized file name. talk about false advertising...

according to their website, the actual portable version of SAS in not free any more. unless of course its just a glitch in the matrix and this is one big misunderstanding.
