This, to me, is one of the rare cases where the person can't be blamed. This isn't a Facebook issue, an online privacy issue, or any of the sort. This is simply, excuse my language a ~ Snipped as per TOS ~ forwarding something they had no right to forward to anyone that wasn't on the "To" line. We can go back and forth about whether she should have made such an email to begin with, and even I admit it wasn't the brightest idea in the world. But, the fact remains that her life is about to get really screwed up because of one person doing what they had no business doing, not because of the loss of online privacy or the idiocy that is social networking.
One thing's for sure, she likely just made 13 new enemies. Last edited by JRViejo : October 12th, 2010 at 02:53 PM. Reason: Possibly Offensive Phrase Removed - JRViejo |

I only got 9/10
Must try Harder Or was the 9 for something else Hopefully as it's all over the www now, plenty of people "might" start to get more clued up on the do's/don'ts of keeping private things, Private. Having said that, they probably think it can't/won't ever happen to them. And strangely enough, some of them won't care Except when it all comes back to haunt them in the future, which it often does these days The sad thing is, people don't always have to learn from their own mistakes, they can learn from others, but for some reason they don't ![]()

That's why you should use an email service that gives the option to "restrict copy/forward/save/print" Just set it to "self destruct" shortly after opening ![]()

I joke about this, but really I wouldn't be happy if I were any of those dudes (even the ones who were "satisfactory" to her). My private business is my business and I don't want it all over the web. But I guess that's the age we live in. If it's in writing, it will probably end up on the web and, as we all know, will be out there forever.

The lady only has her self to blame. She broke rule number one, don't want it public keep it off the Internet.
That said it also shows how desperate folks are for junk news. News organization shouldn't even bother with stuff like this. Sad. Quote:

This is perfect ammunition for media outlets, advocacy groups and politicians. This will get turned into a big privacy on the net story when it has nothing to do with it. But, you're right, even though I gave her less of the blame in my original post, I wonder just how much more attention this would get if she had been the one who got talked about. Hell, in this country, Oprah would have gotten a hold of it and had her on the show as the poor little sexually harassed victim. Given Dukes' history, I'm almost assured these 13 men are going to be the ones to who people say "you should be ashamed". |

Don't be 100% sure, some libraries around here have digitized full newspapers from a few years ago all the way back to some of the very first papers printed in the state, and, they are accessible online to anyone with a valid library card. All I'd have to do (albeit while also breaking the TOS) is print them out and re-upload them to wherever I want and boom, like that they're on the web for all. |

The saddest thing about this whole mess, is not as much the loss of privacy, but the loss of integrity.

Eeww, trash of the first order.
She graduating in what?; pathetic primary school PP presentations maybe. What a tool she is. Anything on the web is there for ever. That foolish self obsessed woman has just trashed her life. The GenYers who populate facebook just dont get what they are giving away, and how they are trashing themselves. No integrity in the first place t.f. none to lose..too late whoever you are.... famous for what ??. All she could hope for now is a name change and some obscurity. Maybe a one shot porn film. She'll be tomorrows fish wrapper. All the usual suspects/pundits wring their hands and wittering on expressing the usual belly button gazing nancyness...blah blah blah It's not as if this is even interesting enough. Typical of the media..13 sexual encounters over some time at some posh university..so what..who gives a 'toss', heh Huge scandal: college guys have sex with...whoever they can !!, whoda thought. !! Turns out to be a poster group for STI's though. She is now sexually connected to about at least 100 other people at Duke perhaps more. ![]() This made me laugh:a blog post entitled: Quote:
