Zombie cookie wars: evil tracking API meant to "raise awareness"

I'm surprised by the lack of response here. When the Flash cookie was in the spotlight, there was a lot of consternation about the fact that it could circumvent you cookie policies, expiry date was practically forever and it could also resurrect the normal cookie and viceversa. If one of them 'survived' then the other could be re-instated. This new Ever-cookie uses 8 instead of 2 methods, and if just one of them survives, all others can be resurrected, so I think that this new evil cookie deserves more attention.

 

Before reading about this, I had already decided to restrict my general browsing to a VM used for nothing else. Perhaps a read-only VM. Now, it's going to be an ISO-based VM.

 

For those who use a reboot-to-restore product, nothing written to disk survives a reboot (without your permission), so no tracking is possible.

It's not just the ever-cookie that merits more attention. What about this combination of modal overlays and onMouseOver?

As Heirophant suggests, VM is one way out. But what if we want to save some stuff to the hard disk?
