Hi!

Similar polls already exist

I can think of two
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showt...ighlight=crime
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showt...ccount+Control

even though they are more general (do you use/use not UAC?)

I use the SMART (default) setting in Windows 7 (Home Premium) .
Note that higher versions of Vista/7 can use additional UAC options through Group Policy or changes to Windows registry can be made:

Running an admin account (assuming) with UAC off means you start ALL your applications with higher that it is necessary rights. Even though you know what you are doing, it is not necessary to do this . Especially with Windows 7 , it won't hurt but is a very strong protection to have just in case. Real protection mean real restriction and perfect rights management.

Yes, but I prefer to ensure my system with an HIPS, that checks every process, service, application, than with UAC.

Always running UAC on max setting. I cannot see why I should not. It can be that it is not the strongest security feature, that is probably right, but a extra layer of protection that it is.
Best Regards

Running full on 2 Windows 7 x64 machines. The prompts aren't there to be annoying, they are there to elevate a process that otherwise would not run due to lack of permission. With it off all processes would do as they please, assuming you are running as admin. Which I assume most of those that have disabled it (because of the annoyance factor) are doing. You also lose Internet Explorer protected mode. I'd rather be prompted than open up the machine like that.

I voted for quiet.

More specifically: in combination with a LUA setup, UAC was set to max, then using Group Polity (as previously noted by 3GUSER), "Behavior of the elevation prompt for administrators in Admin Approval Mode" was set to "elevate without prompting."

To me this gives a good balance of protection and convenience. Protected mode still works. For day to day activities I run in the LUA and I have to option of elevating (using my admin password) for small setting changes. For installs or more substantial setting changes, I switch users into admin mode, give my authentication at log in and then proceed to do what needs to be done popup free.
