    Thanks!!
So why can't find it in the main site? It still offers 2010 version for free trial.

    Re: Norton 2011 released

Nobody else except Symantec guys know the real reason but we can only assume ... Norton 2011 was released officially in Japan . However , except from the product itself (which is currently technically ready) , there are many other things which a company should prepare such as marketing materials , new information on web site , new site campaign , educate staff , technical support ,etc... Japanese guys are ready , others are not - probably.

Running for 16 hours now, and smooth as anything. No issues whatsoever. The only thing I don't really like is the fact that the taskbar icon is square! :p

Does anyone know if Norton 2011 now allows you to configure a confirmation before norton actually deletes or quarantine a file. I don't use norton anymore because I want to make the decision before ANY suspect file is deleted. Norton 2010 did not have that option like Kaspersky and NOD32.

    Thanks guys.

In the case of scans, only with what NIS considers to be "low level risks". Otherwise, the file is automatically quarantined. With real time Sonar, NIS can be configured to not automatiically remove.

I like the round taskbar icon too.

Symantec bring back the round icon. The square one sucks!

Thanks adrman. So, if I understand you correctly, manual on demand scans will automatically quarantine all but low risk items. But real time monitoring can be configured to "Always prompt" for all threats? Still not satisfactory in my opinion. I don't like programs where you can not disable or configure automatic actions. It can be an advanced setting with bold disclaimers, but the option should be present for advanced users. It's my computer and I insist that I have the option to control when a file is deleted or quarantined.

    Re: Norton 2011 released

I'm having a problem installing NIS 2011 on one of my computers and I wanted to see if anyone had suggestions. I originally had NIS 2010 on it, running with no problems. When I first tried to install 2011 it detected 2010 and said it would upgrade it, however it failed when trying to uninstall 2010. I canceled the install and ran the separate 2010 uninstall. After that completed I ran the Norton Removal Tool which also completed successfully. When I tried again to install 2011 it no longer detected the previous version, but it still failed with no clear error. I did a chat session with Norton Support which included running the Norton Power Eraser. It found a couple of things (they didn't look like malware but it wasn't clear) and removed them. The problem persisted. We also tried disabling all third party services, but no joy.

I don't believe malware is the problem. Before trying to install 2011 I had NIS 2010 and Prevx 3.x on the machine and no malware was ever detected by either program. I ran Kaspersky TDSSkiller which found nothing. I'm currently running a full scan with SuperAntiSpyware. I don't expect to find anything, but you never know. For the time being I've reinstalled Prevx and I've added Panda Cloud Antivirus (no problem installing either of those). If necessary I'll stay with these, but I have a 3 PC license for NIS (which is running fine on two other PCs) and I'm not happy I can't use it on my laptop. Unfortunately I don't have a recent enough image to want to go that route and reinstalling the OS is just not worth it since everything else works fine. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Make image of your current installation.

    Try to use AppRemover (2.2.5.1)
    Try MBAM scan
    Repair/clean registry

and then try to install 2011.

Note: Symantec says that the download links to the Norton 2011 products in this thread are not for the final product release.

    1. Open Windows System Properties
    2. Go the to Advanced Tab
    3. Click Environmental Variables button
    4. Click "New" under System Variables
    5. Variable name=devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices, Variable value=1
    6. Click OK on all open windows.

    7. Open Device Manager
    8. Click on View
    9. Check Show hidden devices
    10. Open Not Plug and Play compatible drivers
    11. Remove all Symantec Norton devices: that means, all the ones with Symantec in the name + EraserUtilDrv11010 + EraserUtilRebootDrv (both are part of the removal method of Norton)

You can uninstall them by right-clicking and Uninstall.

In general all the greyed out are leftovers, however you should be really cautious; Google unkown, or view their properties which might contain signatures.
Once upon a time I uninstalled all those "devices" after testing out some antivirus programs.
All of them left behind some many leftovers in the device manager:
AVG like 10, McAfee like 10, BitDefender a bunch, Symantec like 8, ESET 2, avast! 4 and so on.

May I remind all Wilders members not to post active download links to a product that's not yet listed on Norton's Web site. In regards to the de-activated posted links, this When will NIS 2011 product release? forum link (scroll to bottom) states:
Please be patient and wait for their official release. Thanks!

No , what you quote means that these are trial versions of the final . As you may check the official manual and the product itself , it is a final , not beta . This one is just called trialware installer but it can be used with a product key to run the program as paid. The Japanese trialware is even a earlier build 18.0.0.128 but after Live Update it also updates to 18.1.0.37. The product is ready - it is being sold in Japan.

This is on the USA web site support section:

Only SONAR can be configured not to remove threats automatically, "standard" on-access/real-time scanner automatically deals with threats, as well as on-demand (with exception of low risk items).
